About

Tom Jones has enjoyed a life-long interest in photography, owning his first Brownie camera when he was about ten! His professional career was in international educational travel, always taking photographs of the scenic areas visited! In 1998 he retired as Executive Vice President of the American Council of International Studies (ACIS), and moved to Colorado. Shortly after arriving in Colorado, the manager of a local photography shop suggested Tom put his photos on cards and sell them! Another local retailer indicated interest in placing the cards in his stores. Thus TomCards was born. TomCards have been popular in local shops for nearly ten years. The Windsor (Colorado) Chamber of Commerce has used many of his photographs in their publications. Newspapers in Windsor, Fort Collins, and Loveland have all used his photographs. Background and Education: Born and raised in northern Utah. Graduated from Ogden High School in 1954, attended Weber State University and Utah State University prior to accepting a two-and-one-half year assignment as a missionary in Europe for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. His European service included becoming acquainted with France, and the French-speaking areas of Belgium and Switzerland. Upon return from Europe he graduated from Utah State University with a degree in Journalism. He was Extension Service Publications Editor for three years after college graduation before embarking on his career in international education, which included work with the Foreign Study League in Salt Lake City, Utah, the American Insititue for Foreign Study (AIFS), in Greenwich, Connecticut and finally with the Boston-based ACIS. He married Linda Gardner in 1962. They have three children (Todd, Tiffany, and Kimberly) and ten grandchildren. They lived in Logan, Utah, when first married, then spent ten years in Salt Lake City, and 25 years in New York State, before moving to Colorado 13 years ago. In addition to Tom’s interest in photography and travel, he enjoys theatre. Part of his work with ACIS included writing about productions in New York and London, and was able to see most of the major productions in both New York City and London for nearly 30 years. He continues to write theatre reviews of local productions for the Fort Collins Coloradoan, reviewing approximately 20 shows a year for the past few years. He enjoys travel, and has been abroad more than 100 times, primarily to Western Europe, but trips have also included visits to Russia, Africa, and the Middle East, including seeing Israel, Lebanon, and Iraq — long before it became just a problematic nation. He has been to every state in the Union, with the exception of North Dakota!
