Vintage - Be Kind to Animals Every Day,

A vintage public service poster for the Humane Society features an illustration of an elderly gentleman and his pet cat opening the front door on a stormy, rainy night to find a shivering, wet and frightened stray dog on their doorstep. The man bends down toward the dog to let the dog know he's willing to help by bringing the dog inside out of the weather. These vintage posters, many illustrated by Dennis Morgan, were produced for the American Humane Association’s ‘Be Kind to Animals Week’ in the 1930s. Each Dennis Morgan poster featured a child performing an act of kindness to animals. Several well-known artists of the time contributed artwork for these posters over the first few decades of ‘Be Kind to Animals Week’ which began in 1915 in the U.S. A similar campaign was also underway in England. The printed posters in the U.S. were sent to local humane societies with blank space left at the bottom where the local agency’s information could be added.
