Vintage Map Postcard Showing Ecliptic

Early 18th century (1730) map of the world showing the ecliptic, the path of the sun. Has decorative borders showing an insular California and is representative of Pieter Goos world map of 1666. Drawn by Daniel Stoopendaal for publication in the Keur Bible. Each corner features an allegorical representation of the continents in their feminine forms. Each is surrounded by beast including lions, crocodiles, serpents and elephants, thought to be indigenous to the individual continents. Stoopendaal revisions of Visscher's work include geographical updates as well as the incorporation of Copernican and Ptolemaic solar systems in the place of Visscher's polar projections.
