Vintage William Morris Artichoke Ceramic Tile

This particular work is called “Artichoke” and is described as Art Needlework Embroidery done with wool on linen. It was designed by William Morris in 1877 for Ada Phoebe Godman and was afterwards available from Morris and Company. William Morris was an English textile designer, poet novelist, translator, and social activist and was a major contributor to the revival of traditional British textile arts and methods of production. Much of his work can be found in art galleries and museums and his designs are still in production. Although best known in his lifetime as a poet, Morris is recognized as one of the most significant cultural figures of Victorian Britain.
