Metamorphosis ~ Transformation of the Spirit

The Children’s Advocacy Center of Jackson County (CAC) is based in Medford, Oregon. Our vision is simple: Communities where children are safe, families and strong, and our child victims become children again. Our process is collaborative: we work to bring together trained professionals in all areas of child abuse prevention, identification, intervention, and treatment to serve over 800 youth each year, and we work with community partners to ensure that these children and their families receive the support they need to heal through the trauma of abuse and victimization. We offer a safe, comfortable home-like atmosphere for children and teens to tell their stories to law enforcement and, when it is needed, for them to meet with the Grand Jury. We offer medical and therapy services for all clients and we provide education and support to non-offending family members. We also offer year-long mentoring programs to adolescents, designed to help them move more deeply into the process of healing and to support them in transforming their self-images from that of victims to healthy young people with the ability to create positive futures. Each summer we collaborate with several community partners, including The Studio at Living Opportunities, KOBI-Channel 5, Veranda Park, and Mustard Press to offer 30 of these young people a unique opportunity to participate in professional art classes and create works of art. We hold an art opening to showcase their work, with a few hundred people who support this vision. We create note cards and books of their work and a video chronicling their experiences, designed to teach and inspire everyone who watches it. The young artists receive 50% of the profits from the sale of their original art work, then offer use of the images for sale of products which directly support the ongoing mentoring programs. It is truly a life cycle where those who have benefited from the program leave behind something which offers hope for healing to the next child or teen to enter our doors.
