Nine Lives Studio produces art and provides art instruction imbued with the Zen attributes of simplicity and mindfulness.

Sumi-e – Japanese ink painting: The simple forms are traditionally created with black ink on white paper. Zen simplicity: earthy scent of ink and the brush contacting the rice paper combined with humor and joy with spiritual and philosophical meaning.

Collage: My creative process relies upon experimentation, serendipity, and exploration of materials to express the energy that celebrates life in all its mystery and paradox.

Watercolor/Watercolor Pencils: It’s important to me to capture the delicate ecological balance of my subjects in their environment. I work from my digital or photographic images. Keeping the sumi-e training in mind, my paintings tend to leave a lot of white space.

Block Prints: Black and white, positive and negative space, simple Zen approach to creating a reproducable print.
