Darius has been drawing since he could pick up a pencil, and even published his first cartoon strip in a local paper aged just 13. He is fond of the illustrations of Quentin Blake, Brian Froud, Arthur Rackham and Gustav Dore, and of the comic book artwork of the great Jack Kirby, Will Eisner and Frank Miller, and the manga of Hayao Miyazaki, although his main inspirations come from within. Darius Arkham was born in Essex in 1978 and began drawing as soon as he was old enough to grip a felt tip. Drawing mostly dinosaurs, Marvel superheroes and characters from Starwars, he was before long creating his own comics or illustrated short stories. As he was taught at home due to poor health during his childhood, Darius spent most of his childhood bringing his characters to life with the family video camera or building his own computer games with his friend, on a Spectrum ZX. His love for character design and illustration flourished during his teenage years and at 20 he began illustrating professionally.
