Testimonials

I just received my first poster from you, and it is the most incredible thing I have ever seen!!! I just started getting into macro photography and I plan on using your service for a long time! THANK YOU SO MUCH!

— Michael

I just received my first 3 posters. They are far better than I ever would have expected. The printing quality and color fidelity was perfect. I have been buying prints for over 30 years and I thought I could tell how any piece was printed but now I confess I do not know how these posters were reproduced... congratulations. I look forward to having much more of my work reproduced by your outstanding organization.

— Norman

Standard vs. Custom Framing

The main differences between standard and custom framing are price and variety. Learn more about each option below:

  • Standard framing

Available for posters only, standard frames come ready-made in a range of standard sizes only. Made of matte black wood, standard frames are an affordable finishing touch for any piece of art. With a sawtooth hanger or easel back (available for 8" x 10" and 8.5" x 11" sizes), standard frames come in standard frame sizes that make your art ready to hang on delivery. (Not available for rolled canvas.)

  • Custom framing

For even more control over the final look and feel of your art, choose custom framing. Made in a range of premium wood and metal styles, custom frames are hand-fitted to your artwork by our team of professional framers. Available in standard and non-standard sizes up to 40" x 60" (depending on the mat selection), custom frames are made to fit the unique dimensions of your artwork. In addition to selecting the frame, you’ll also be able to choose from 40 colors of acid-free conservation matting.

What file types and sizes are best for uploading for custom prints?

We support JPEG, PNG, GIF, or TIFF files.

Posters and prints are created at a minimum of 150 ppi (pixels per inch).

Here are a few examples of print dimensions and our recommendations for image sizes:

  • 8" x 10" = 1200 pixels by  1500 pixels (Minimum print size)
  • 8.5" x 11" = 1275 pixels by 1650 pixels
  • 11" x 14" = 1650 pixels by 2100 pixels
  • 16" x 20" = 2400 pixels by 3000 pixels
  • 12" x 36" = 1800 pixels by 5400 pixels
  • 24" x 24" = 3600 pixels by 3600 pixels
  • 24" x 36" = 3600 pixels by 5400 pixels
  • 46" x 200" = 6900 pixels by 30000 pixels (Maximum print size)

If your image is bigger than these sizes (in pixels), it'll turn out even better since it will be printed at an even higher resolution than the minimum.

What are the standard frame sizes?

Standard framing is available in these frame sizes only:

  • 4" x 6"
  • 5" x 7"
  • 6" x 6"
  • 8" x 10"
  • 8.5" x 11"
  • 11" x 14"
  • 12" x 12"
  • 12" x 16"
  • 14" x 22"
  • 16" x 20"
  • 18" x 24"
  • 20" x 24"
  • 24" x 24"
  • 12" x 36"
  • 24" x 36"

To select a standard frame, be sure to select a standard size when creating or customizing your poster. Please note: Cropping may be required to ensure your poster will fit in a standard frame. If you do not want your poster cropped please select custom framing and your image will not be altered.

What is matting for custom framing?

In addition to being a wonderful way to showcase your photography or fine art, matting also helps to protect the image from pressing directly against the acrylic glazing. A decorative paper board made of 100% cotton rag, our acid and lignon free conservation matting creates a beautiful border around your artwork. With an archival rating of 100+ years, Zazzle matting will help to extend the lifetime of your photos and prints by avoiding unnecessary damage. While our standard frames are sold with pre-selected mats (not included for 24x36 standard frames), custom frames come with single or double mats in the color of your choice.

If I choose a frame, do I have to choose a mat?

For standard frames, no. All standard frames come with a pre-selected mat (not included for 24x36 standard frames).

For custom frames, there are 40 colors to choose from for single and double matting.

What types of mats do you offer?

In addition to offering 40 mat colors for custom framing, Zazzle also provides single and double matting options. All Zazzle matting is designed for professional conservation and archival purposes. A decorative paper board made of 100% cotton rag, our acid and lignon free conservation matting creates a beautiful border around your artwork. With an archival rating of 100+ years, Zazzle matting will help to extend the lifetime of your photos and prints by avoiding unnecessary damage.

What is acrylic glazing and how do you clean it?

A preferred alternative to conventional glass, acrylic glazing is a pane or sheet of plastic composite that is lightweight and virtually unbreakable. In addition to keeping out dust and dirt, acrylic glazing protects the artwork from irreversible damage caused by broken glass. At Zazzle, all standard and custom frames use acrylic glazing. Standard frames come with standard clear glazing, while custom frames are available with standard, non-glare, and UV-filtering options.

Safe and easy-to-clean, acrylic glazing can be washed gently with a solution of mild soap or detergent and lukewarm water. Using a soft, damp cloth or chamois, wipe the solution onto the glazing, rinse with clean water, and carefully dry by blotting. Don’t use too much liquid. If water or soap seeps between the glazing and the frame, it could damage the matting and the print.

What glazing options do you have?

Zazzle offers 3 types of acrylic glazing for your custom framed images:

  • Acrylic

The most basic type of glazing, this clear sheet of acrylic is firm enough to avoid bending in the frame.  Standard acrylic glazing works to protect your image from dust and dirt, and is more impact-resistant than glass, so you don’t have to worry if the picture falls down. It is perfect for use in children’s rooms and in high-traffic areas of your home or office.
  • Acrylic, Non-Glare

Lightly etched to produce a surface pattern that diffuses reflections, non-glare acrylic glazing makes your artwork easier to view. With a matte finish, this glazing option can be useful when your art is placed in a brightly-lit area.
  • Acrylic, UV-Protection

Designed for conservation, acrylic glazing with UV-protection keeps your image from fading, yellowing, and brittling as a result of exposure to direct sunlight and artificial light. The best option for framing your museum quality fine art and photographs, UV-protection acrylic filters out the damaging UV-rays to make your art enjoyable for many years to come.
What is the difference between double and single matting?

Whereas single matting creates only one border around your image, double matting creates two. Although single matting allows you to accent your artwork with a colored border, double matting allows you to choose two accent colors.

When selecting colors for your double mats, we suggest that you match the inner mat color to a dominant color in your picture, and choose a more neutral color for the outer mat. This will draw the viewer’s eye into to your actual work of art rather than being distracted by the outside border.

For all custom framing, the width of the inner mat border is limited in size and generally smaller than the outer border.

What are the best paper, frame, and mat options to choose, if I want my print to last 100+ years?

Designed for permanence, all of our museum-quality archival poster options will make your print last for over 100 years. Once you’ve settled on the desired printing option and paper type, we recommend that you use our acid-free matting and UV-filtering acrylic glazing for extra durability and protection. Available with all custom framing at Zazzle, these small extras could double the lifespan of your print.

Can all items on Zazzle be framed?

Most print and photographic products are available for framing (Wrapped Canvas is not available for framing). Zazzle offers two types of framing: standard framing and custom framing.

  • Standard framing (Posters Only)

Available for posters only, standard frames come in a range of standard sizes. Made of matte black wood, standard frames are an affordable finishing touch for any piece of art. With a sawtooth hanger or easel back (available for 8" x 10" and 8.5" x 11" sizes), standard frames come in many frame sizes that make your art ready to hang on delivery. (Not available for rolled canvas.)
  • Custom framing (All Zazzle Prints)

For even more control over the final look and feel of your art, choose custom framing. Made in a range of premium wood and metal styles, custom frames are hand-fitted to your artwork by professional framers. Available in standard and non-standard sizes up to 40" x 60" (depending on the mat selection), custom frames are made to fit the unique dimensions of your artwork. In addition to selecting the frame, you’ll also get to choose from 40 colors of acid-free conservation matting.
