In addition to being a wonderful way to showcase your photography or fine art, matting also helps to protect the image from pressing directly against the acrylic glazing. A decorative paper board made of 100% cotton rag, our acid and lignon free conservation matting creates a beautiful border around your artwork. With an archival rating of 100+ years, Zazzle matting will help to extend the lifetime of your photos and prints by avoiding unnecessary damage. While our standard frames are sold with pre-selected mats (not included for 24x36 standard frames), custom frames come with single or double mats in the color of your choice.
For standard frames, no. All standard frames come with a pre-selected mat (not included for 24x36 standard frames).
For custom frames, there are 40 colors to choose from for single and double matting.
In addition to offering 40 mat colors for custom framing, Zazzle also provides single and double matting options. All Zazzle matting is designed for professional conservation and archival purposes. A decorative paper board made of 100% cotton rag, our acid and lignon free conservation matting creates a beautiful border around your artwork. A preferred alternative to conventional glass, acrylic glazing is a pane or sheet of plastic composite that is lightweight and virtually unbreakable. In addition to keeping out dust and dirt, acrylic glazing protects the artwork from irreversible damage caused by broken glass. At Zazzle, all standard and custom frames use acrylic glazing. Standard frames come with standard clear glazing, while custom frames are available with standard, non-glare, and UV-filtering options.
Safe and easy-to-clean, acrylic glazing can be washed gently with a solution of mild soap or detergent and lukewarm water. Using a soft, damp cloth or chamois, wipe the solution onto the glazing, rinse with clean water, and carefully dry by blotting. Don’t use too much liquid. If water or soap seeps between the glazing and the frame, it could damage the matting and the print.
Zazzle offers 3 types of acrylic glazing for your custom framed images:
Whereas single matting creates only one border around your image, double matting creates two. Although single matting allows you to accent your artwork with a colored border, double matting allows you to choose two accent colors.
When selecting colors for your double mats, we suggest that you match the inner mat color to a dominant color in your picture, and choose a more neutral color for the outer mat. This will draw the viewer’s eye into to your actual work of art rather than being distracted by the outside border.
For all custom framing, the width of the inner mat border is limited in size and generally smaller than the outer border.
Designed for permanence, all of our museum-quality archival poster options will make your print last for over 100 years. Once you’ve settled on the desired printing option and paper type, we recommend that you use our acid-free matting and UV-filtering acrylic glazing for extra durability and protection. Available with all custom framing at Zazzle, these small extras could double the lifespan of your print.
Most print and photographic products are available for framing (Wrapped Canvas is not available for framing). Zazzle offers two types of framing: standard framing and custom framing.

The Océ® printer at Zazzle is a large format photo laser printer. Using a continuous tone process in which each pixel can be any shade of 68 billion colors, the Océ® printer produces photographic prints at an astounding apparent resolution of 4000 dots per inch. This higher range of possible colors creates unrivaled image sharpness and color accuracy in skin-tone and other difficult to render objects. Prints made using Océ® technology are long-lasting and perfect for all high quality needs such as: photographic exhibits, museum displays and reproductions of historical photographs.
Similar to traditional darkroom printing, digital silver-halide printing uses photo paper coated with an emulsion of silver-halide crystals. When the photo-sensitive emulsion is exposed to light, a latent (invisible) image is created. Once treated with developer, stop bath and fixer chemicals, the exposed silver-halide crystals become visible, resulting in your desired photographic print. In digital silver-halide printing, colored lasers perform the exposure process. Loaded with unexposed silver-halide photo paper, the Océ printer uses 3 different lasers to expose the photo-sensitive emulsion on the paper with red, blue, and green light. After the laser exposure, the print is developed and set with traditional darkroom chemicals—all within the body of the printer and adhering the strictest quality standards
