Eclipse
About
Eclipse is an open source community whose projects are focused on providing an extensible development platform and application frameworks for building software. Eclipse provides extensible tools and frameworks that span the software development lifecycle, including support for modeling, language development environments for Java, C/C++, PHP and others, testing and performance, business intelligence, rich client applications and embedded development. A large, vibrant ecosystem of major technology vendors, innovative start-ups, universities and research institutions and individuals extend, complement and support the Eclipse Platform. The Eclipse Foundation is a not-for-profit, member supported corporation that hosts the Eclipse projects. Full details of Eclipse and the Eclipse Foundation are available at www.eclipse.org .

"welcome to programmer's eden!"
I have been using IDEs from last five years and I have to admit this is the very best that I have ever seen. Thanks a ton to the Eclipse team for their effort and wonderful gift to the world of developers. I can see in this tool a perfect blending of all the powerful features of available IDEs. I have used Visual studio, KDevelop and Source Insight for editing the source code written primarily on C/C++. They all have few good features but they are not identical; to be precise they are significantly different from all others. So eclipse is the most cross-platform IDE tool. The same magic on all domains. Splendid! The newest release has the power of KDevelop to enable me create Makefile based projects and quite flexible in terms of using several plugins. They are easy to install and SVN is there already. It has everything a developer need. I use MAC and Linux for my development purpose so the cross-platform feature is a kind of benediction for me. The source code navigation in eclipse with powerful graphics to visualize different portion of the code is another blessing. In short it the programmer's eden!
