But that's both the fun and the very serious point to this sort of exercise. We are dealing with a culture of sadistic bullies and cowards, and when forced to the wall, they always back down. It is not possible to reason with people who are not willing to be reasonable. There is only one point to their choice to interact with other people - to dominate, to "win," and to do so by any means. In fact, Hannity is pretty clearly incapable of parsing facts and evidence well enough to rise above populist pandering. He's just unbearably stupid. I have no idea how Colms puts up with him, or why. Bullies like Hannity are not interested in any outcome that does not make them look good to their chosen peers. Most of this is strut and posture, backed up by carefully chosen occasions of violence in the cases where they are absolutely sure they can get away with it. So, one merely needs to make them live up to the bluster, to make them take the risk of actual conflict on ground that has not been carefully selected by them (say, Fox News.) This is what Olbermann is doing. And it is predictable that Hannity will back down. The point is to ensure that he is denied any chance to save face. The point is to publicly demonstrate that he is, in fact, unworthy of the bully pulpit he commands. That he does not have the courage to back his words with personal, consequential action. By the way, everything I have said is true of anyone who would either create or wear a "I'd rather be waterboarding" shirt. Of course, anyone who would actually do it to another human being - outside of the constraints of consentual kink - should consider any outcome less final than a small caliber bullet behind the ear to be a total gift from "Squeamish Liberals" who are too "cowardly" to "do what it takes."
