A Condition of Absolute Value

Top Picks

Presented below are a series of images, taken from one of my paintings, 'Juliet'. Which was part of my 'Love: A Condition of Absolute Value' exhibition. Here is my personal statement from that show:

"Because of the complex and abstract nature of love, discourse on love is commonly reduced to a thought-terminating cliché, and there are a number of common proverbs regarding love, from Virgil's "Love conquers all" to The Beatles' "All you need is love". Bertrand Russell describes love as a condition of "absolute value", as opposed to relative value. Theologian, Thomas Jay Oord said that to love is to "act intentionally, in sympathetic response to others, to promote overall well-being".

No matter how clichéd, how crass, how passé it is, love is relevant to each and every one of us. Love can be found in the people we know, our friends and family, our passions, our motivation, the music we listen to, the books we read, the performances we watch. It’s everywhere. I wanted to create an exhibition that acknowledged this and celebrated love. I’ve chosen subject images that can be associated with love - from hearts, to roses, music, star crossed lovers and faith, through to the darker aspects of love, such as the apple: the temptation of Eve."
