Elizabeth's BIO:Photography has always been a passion of Elizabeth's from the time she was very young. She remembers the first time she saw her grandmother’s vast collection of National Geographic magazines and she would sit on the floor for hours just thumbing through volume after volume.
She was strongly influenced, amazed and repulsed by the images that were captured on all of those pages and felt the need to gain an inside understanding of what it would be like to create life in an image from her own unique perspective.
Other influences were less obvious. Early on, she felt the need to archive her life experiences through her art as she moved from town to town with her family every few years. She grew up the daughter of a Southern Minister and spent her entire life encountering new situations which helped her to keep a fresh eye on ordinary things that she would see.
Elizabeth states that, “Like many before me, the first time I saw an Ansel Adams or a Dorothea Lange photograph I was moved, but one of the photographers that has influenced me the most is Diane Arbus. Her perspective on humanity and her raw and quirky style made me sit up and take notice of what can be created through photography.”
Elizabeth is inspired by color, texture, pattern, and the unexpected and she shoots from the hip, but always from the heart. Another influence is the movie, "Dead Poets Society" where Robin Williams encourages his students to stand on their desks and look at life from a different perspective, Elizabeth also strives to constantly look for new angles to tell the most common of stories. Her goal is to see the world with a fresh pair of eyes and to share that with her viewers, in an effort to offer an alternative from the ordinary and expected.
Elizabeth holds a BFA in Ceramic Sculpture from the University of Tampa in Tampa, Florida and a M. Ed. with a Specialization in Interdisciplinary Arts from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Elizabeth has taught art to children and adults across the world from Florida to New York, Paris, and Cairo and as far away as the Mediterranean island of Malta. She currently works in the computer software industry training Mental Health Care professionals to use a computer software application that will improve the lives of U.S. Veterans around the world.
