You can also visit us on Flickr to learn about our charity knitting projects, or read about our fundraising efforts during the 2008 election on our blog. Through the hard work and generosity of our group members and friends, we raised over $43,000 for the Barack Obama campaign in 2008.
Throughout the past few years, member of Knitters for Obama (KFO) have completed a number of Service Knitting projects including a charity project for homeless LGBT teens in New York City, another for children entering foster care in Chicago, and one for the Upper Mattaponi Indian Tribe in King William County, VA.
In early 2009 we concluded a project honoring Madelyn Dunham, Barack Obama's grandmother who passed away in 2008 after a long battle with cancer. KFO participants donated over 200 handmade hats to cancer patients at the University of Chicago Medical Center.
In the months leading up to the 2008 election, our group completed a knitting drive for homeless veterans shelters across the country. Approximately 100 knitters and crocheters lovingly handcrafted over 1,200 hats, scarves, mittens, blankets, and washcloths for our brave veterans. Photos here, here, and here.
