My tag is Crooked Walker. Growing up in a small town near Vancouver, BC, I was heavily influenced by the spray-can art I would see on weekend missions into the city. I really had no idea how the writers would create the murals and throw-ups but I wanted to try it. I was soon going on late-night stealth missions around my hometown – right about this time tagging was huge, so I thought I needed a tag name. I thought about it for a long time…in fact right up to the point where I was standing in a park baseball diamond at 2 am with arm outstretched and finger on nozzle. Crooked Walker appeared in my head and it fit perfectly: for years I basically had a permanently sprained ankle and this obviously caused me to walk favoring one leg. Crooked Walker Designs are a reflection of over twenty years of skateboarding and the popular culture it defines and borrows from.

I originally got involved in producing art through creating T-shirt designs for several companies, and from there I just kept going, here are some highlights:

-1995 Graphic designer for Westbeach Snowboard Clothing. Several illustrations commissioned for clothing, as well as part of a team that designed the look and fit of clothing.

-1996 Three broken arms, one broken collarbone, one concussion, front teeth knocked out, three compacted vertebrae, and one broken ankle.

Municipality of Delta Ladner skateboard park opens. I initiated the project as well as helped to design, fund raise, and construct it. The park devoted to street skating was one of the first of its kind. I received two outstanding citizen awards.

-2001 Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design - I completed first two years of the Fine Arts program then transferred to the Communication Design program. Achieved Bachelor of Design Degree.

-2006 Electronic Arts Canada - credited as an artist and lead artist on nine major published video games.

-2007 Photos published in several issues of Vice, including the Photo Annual. Images displayed at New York’s Seize Sur Vingt gallery as part of Vice’s annual photo show. Images re-published in The Vice Photo Book. As well I have had images published on the CBC Radio 3 website, Vorn, Adbusters, Capital, Ion, and Color magazines.

image included in Bruce Mau’s Massive Change exhibition.

–2008 Color Magazine freelance photographer, writer, and designer. Highlights include cover image, writer and producer of article on the history of the skate T-shirt, and travel assignment to Winnipeg Canada to write on The Forks Skatepark, North America’s largest skatepark.
