The StoryTwo years ago, the government initiated a secret operation codenamed "The Techno Project", and dispatched a team of scientists to a facility known as the Federal Antarctic Technological Base Underground That's Top Secret (or "FATBUTTS", for short). Their mission: To scientifically engineer a bionic "supersoldier" capable of protecting mankind from evil. As a result of The Techno Project, two supersoldiers were created: a robot named Techno Alpha, and a cyborg named Techno Beta. Unfortunately, the two "brothers" never saw eye-to-eye, and eventually went their seperate ways. Techno Alpha lived the secluded life of a loner, while Techno Beta went on to become a hero. Since then, things have been peaceful. But a new villain has suddenly surfaced, and the two bionic supersoldiers will soon cross paths again on their individual missions to stop the evil professor Eugene Poolle from carrying out his plan of world domination, "The Gamma Project"... The Characters
Techno Beta Created by Professor Eugene Poolle two years ago, Techno Beta, known simply as "Techno" to his closest friends, is an advanced cyborg supersolider. He is headquartered at his "birthplace," the Federal Antarctic Technological Base Underground That's Top Secret. Being a cyborg, his body is composed of both robotic and organic material, so his physical strength and speed are far greater than that of an ordinary human or animal. Beta's exact species is unknown, so it is assumed that his DNA actually contains a mixture of several different animal species. His bionic legs allow him to run at speeds in excess of 60 MPH without suffering from fatigue. His robotic arms are equipped with "Shock Blasters," which he can use to shoot concetrated bursts of nonlethal energy from his hands. He is also equipped with a high-tech Hoverboard that can expand or retract from his cybernetic feet, allowing him to hover great distances or slow his descent while falling. Thanks to his metal internal skeleton, he can turn into a damaging "living buzzsaw" by somersaulting while in midair. By absorbing the mysterious W-Orbs that lie scattered around the planet, he can harness enough energy to blast huge energy shockwaves through the air, or temporarily transform into a vastly stronger (and just plain cool-looking) version of himself, "Ultra Techno Beta." He has a relaxed personality, and tends to mock his enemies rather than fear them. Techno Beta cracks cheesy sarcastic jokes all the time, much to the dismay of those with whom he conversates. Techno Beta was the second genetically engineered supersoldier created as a part of the secret government operation, "The Techno Project," and is the "younger brother" of Techno Alpha. Beta was designed specifically to defend the people of the world from supervillains or any other threats humanity may face. He has saved the world from evil madmen in the past, but for nearly two years, his life has been peaceful. Unfortunately, Eugene Poolle has recently been revealed as a power-hungry traitor to the government, so Techno Beta must now set out on a new mission to defeat his own creator before Poolle's evil plan, "The Gamma Project" is completed.
Techno Alpha Commonly known as just "Alpha" to his aquaintances, Techno Alpha is the first robot supersoldier created as a part of "The Techno Project." Like Techno Beta, he can shoot Shock Blasts from his cybernetic arms, use the tricky Buzzsaw Somersault technique, run at over 60 MPH, and use the power of the W-Orbs to expel damaging Green Shockwaves from his body. However, Alpha's Shock Blasters are designed a bit differently than his brother's, allowing him to fire much more rapidly. Both his feet are equipped with powerful jets that he can use to propel himself twice as high into the air while jumping. By harnessing the energy of the W-Orbs, he can expand and shift his metallic body parts to transform into a taller, physically stronger, and somewhat ninja-like version of himself known as "Ultra Techno Alpha." Being a robot, he can also transform into a waterborne "vehicle mode" when necessary, which he can use to skim across lakes and rivers. Techno Alpha despises his creator, Eugene Poolle, for abandoning him in the Antarctic shortly after he was built. Due to his lonesome past, he tends to act rude, cocky, and generally uncaring toward those he interacts with. He does, however, have a conscience, and he will help anyone in danger when called. For a short time after his creation, Alpha resented Techno Beta, since the latter gained favor with the government while Alpha rusted in the cold. Now, however, he knows that Beta is not his true enemy, and is consumed with the idea of getting revenge on Poolle. As it turns out, Poolle is a traitor to the government, so in an odd twist of fate, Alpha is hired by FATBUTTS to find and defeat the professor. On his mission, he is eventually joined by an amnesiac skunk girl named Mia.
Blunder Bulldog This seven-foot-tall cyborg was once an ordinary, fully-organic bulldog, but after succumbing to Eugene Poolle's twisted experiments, he was turned into a walking tank -- literally! For a time he worked as Poolle's trusted guard dog, but after witnessing his master's cruelty to animals, he eventually defected to the side of good and joined Techno Beta in his mission to defeat Poolle. Blunder is technically the "half-brother" of both Techno Beta and Techno Alpha, since he was partially created by Poolle. Since he wasn't programmed with the ability to harness the energy of the W-Orbs, he isn't quite as powerful as Beta or Alpha, but he makes up for it with immense physical strength and agility. His tank treads can shift position or change shape depending on his needed form of mobility, so he isn't restricted to the ground -- with a quick transformation of his treads, he can hover in the air or float on bodies of water. Somehow, despite the fact that he doesn't have feet, he can even jump and hover with ease. Blunder can also charge his own breath with electrostatic energy, giving him the ability to shoot beams of electricity from his mouth. As his name suggests, Blunder is sometimes clumsy and absent-minded, but he has a heart of gold and is intensely loyal to his friends. Despite the fact that he is a living war machine, he actually has a strong dislike of violence, and will only fight if he feels there is no other option. Since he lived as Eugene Poolle's bodyguard for nearly two years, he knows a lot about the professor's evil plans, and can provide vital information to Techno Beta in his mission to stop The Gamma Project from coming to fruition.
Mia Skunk A mystery of genetics, the self-named Mia is a fully organic skunk, yet she has a humanoid body and possesses the ability to speak -- two traits normally shared only by humans and cyborg animals. She suffers from a bad case of amnesia, and can't remember anything about her life prior to awakening in the middle of Nesteke Forest with a throbbing headache. One thing is for certain: she wasn't created by Poolle, since he doesn't know how to make fully organic creatures. However, after meeting Techno Alpha, she decides to join him in his quest to find the Professor, since she believes Poolle may have some connection to her memory loss. Although she is unaware of the fact, Alpha has detected a strange energy emanating from her body. Only time will reveal the true nature of her power. Mia is very high-spirited and energetic. She enjoys trying to find ways to cheer up Alpha, but most of the time, she succeeds only in bugging him. Alpha knows that she means well, though, so he tries to overlook her way-too-happy, sometimes-annoying personality.
Professor Eugene Poolle The man behind the creation of Techno Alpha, Techno Beta, Blunder Bulldog, and countless other cyborgs. Eugene Poolle is a genius in Cyborganics -- the science of cybernetic and organic material working together in harmony. He was hired by the Chief of FATBUTTS two years ago to help genetically engineer a supersoldier for "The Techno Project," and he succeeded magnificently; within just a few days of joining the Project's team he built a robot named Techno Alpha, and a few weeks later he finished his ultimate creation, Techno Beta. Unfortunately, Poolle allowed a lust for power to fill his mind, and he secretly planned to initiate a "Final Program" into Beta's mind to turn him into an evil henchman that would help him take over the world. Luckily, The Chief discovered his sinister plan, and had Poolle arrested before he could succeed in turning Beta evil. After his arrest, Poolle was strapped into a machine that would erase all his knowledge of Cyborganics, to prevent him from ever re-attempting his evil plan in the future. However, Poolle broke free of the machine and escaped FATBUTTS before his memory was fully erased, so he still remembers some of the details of the science of Cyborganics. He has kept a low profile and lived in an inconspicuous log cabin in Nesteke Forest for the past two years, plotting a way to create a new cyborg that he can use to conquer the world, just as he originally planned when creating Techno Beta. Fortunately, without his full knowledge of Cyborganics, he has not yet succeeded in making another "supersoldier"... but it's only a matter of time before he regains his full memory and accomplishes his dreaded plan, codenamed "The Gamma Project." Poolle is obsessed with the idea of world domination -- so much, in fact, that he is willing to perform the cruelest of experiments on his animal test subjects in his attempts to create a cyborg supersoldier. He has outfitted his log cabin with heavy-duty rockets, making his base of operations fully mobile and capable of flight. This makes it difficult for Techno Beta, Alpha, or any other government agents to locate him, which is how he has eluded arrest for so long. He will stop at nothing to accomplish his goal of global rulership, even if he has to kill his favorite creation, Beta, to do it.
The Chief When the government initiated "The Techno Project" two years ago, they placed this man in charge of the project and sent him, along with a team of scientists, to the Federal Antarctic Technological Base Underground That's Top Secret -- otherwise known as FATBUTTS. The Chief and his crew worked tirelessly to genetically engineer a supersoldier capable of fulfulling the requirements of the Project, but none of their robot creations were good enough. Desperate, the Chief enlisted outside help: the brilliant professor, Eugene Poolle. Poolle did succeed in creating Techno Beta, a true cyborg supersoldier, but the professor was soon revealed to be a traitor to the government, and the Chief was forced to shut down The Techno Project. Luckily, Techno Beta turned out to be a noble hero, and was eventually hired by the government to protect the world from evil. The Chief, not wanting to reveal that fact that an evil madman had created the world's best superhero, took credit for Beta's creation. Unfortunately, now that Poolle has resurfaced and again threatens to take over the world, the Chief has been forced to admit the truth to Techno Beta. He has looked at Techno Beta as somewhat of an adopted "son," so he regrets lying to him for the past two years. The Chief has never bothered to reveal his true name, so he is always referred to by his title. He tries to be serious due to the nature of his job, but he also knows when to lighten up and just laugh a little. He has grown used to his life in Antarctica, but he often wishes he could move to a warmer place. Miscellaneous InfoKnown Bugs: --Upon its defeat, the spring-like snake enemy's death animation occasionally loops, causing it to look pretty silly. This is a very minor bug, though, so I haven't spent much time trying to fix it yet. --During the Rino boss battle, Rino's attacks will sometimes be doubled -- for instance, he will inexplicably shoot 4 lasers instead or 2, or launch 8 spikes instead of 4. I'm still working to find the cause of this problem, but it should be fixed by the time I release the next demo. Notes: Techno: TGP has huge levels, a lot of large graphics, and detailed special effects, so gameplay may be laggy on computers with inadequate RAM or Video/Graphics Memory. If you are experiencing lag, you can try changing certain settings to improve gameplay speed. --By default, the Nesteke Forest level uses two layers of scrolling backgrounds, to give a nice effect of depth to the forest. Unfortunately, this can cause the level to lag somewhat on certain computers. To fix the problem, go to the Title Screen, then the Options menu. Highlight the "Background Quality" option, and press Z to cycle through alternate settings. "Double-Layered Background" is the default setting, which utilizes two seperate scrolling backgrounds for the level. "Single-Layer Background" utilizes only one scrolling background for the level, which helps improve gameplay speed. If all else fails, use the "No Background" setting, which turns off the background altogether. NOTE: These settings only affect the Nesteke Forest level. --Though the special effects in this game look cool, they can cause some slowdown in the game. If you notice lag whenever special effects are utilized, you can go to the Title Screen, then the Options menu. Highlight the "Effects" option, and press Z to turn the special effects On or Off. Turning off the effects will make things a bit less eye-appealing, but it may help improve gameplay speed. NOTE: After turning off the effects, you may need to turn off the game and restart it in order for the changes to take full effect. --If nothing else is helping to improve gameplay speed, you can manually resize the game window to a smaller size. I've found that this sometimes helps reduce lag. Contact MeI'd love to hear from you! You can send me your feedback in any of the following ways: 1. Fill out this Contact form. 2.
