The Clipper Ship - Syren Posters
by gwesterA Clipper Card from the early 1860's advertising the sailing of the small clipper ship Syren from the East Coast around the Horn to San Francisco. The Syren was built in 1851 for the gold rush trade. She outlasted all other American clipper ships and was still sailing in the 1930s - more than 80 years later. This was an extraordinary length of active service for a wooden-hulled vessel.
