Working with Text in the Design Tool

Steps below are for a computer. On a phone, the same tools are in the bottom toolbar (see On a phone).

Change the designer's text

Click Edit in the left toolbar and type over the text in each box. Your design updates as you type.

Add new text

1. Click Add Text in the left toolbar, then Add a text box.

   

2. Type your text and click Submit.

   

Edit, move, and delete text

• Change the words – double-click the text, or select it and click Edit text. Make your change and click Done.
• Move – drag the text. Alignment guides help you line it up.
• Rotate – drag the round rotation handle.
• Duplicate – click the Duplicate icon, or copy and paste.
• Delete – press Delete, or click the trash icon.

Style your text

Select your text to see its toolbar above the design.

• Font – click it to see fonts in the left panel. Search, or browse Popular and All Fonts.

  

• Font size – type a size or use – and +. You can also drag a corner handle.
• Text color – pick a swatch, enter a custom color, or use the eyedropper to match a color in your design.

  

• Bold and Italic – grayed out if the font doesn't have bold or italic styles.
• Text align – align left, center, or right, and anchor text to the top, center, or bottom of its box.
• Group – select several items and click Group to move and resize them together.

Align, flip, and rotate

Click Alignment in the toolbar.

• Align – line text up to the left, center, right, top, middle, or bottom. Choose Artboard to align to the design area, or Selection to align selected items to each other.
• Distribute – space several selected items evenly.
• Flip – mirror the text Horizontally or Vertically.
• Scale – make it Smaller or Larger.
• Rotate – turn it 15° at a time, or type an exact angle.

Text effects

Click Effects in the toolbar.

• Opacity – make text see-through.
• Tiling – repeat the text as a pattern.
• Shadow – turn on a drop shadow, then set its direction, offset, and color.
• Stroke – add an outline, then set its thickness and color. This can make thin fonts easier to read.
• Line spacing – space between lines.
• Letter spacing – space between letters.
• Curved text – bend your text up or down.
• Text orientation – Horizontal or Vertical.

Many effects have an Apply to all text option to copy the setting to every text box.

Locked text

Designers sometimes lock text so it doesn't move by accident. To unlock it:

1. Click Layers in the left toolbar.
2. Hover over the text and click its lock icon.

If the item is grayed out and the lock can't be clicked, the designer has turned off changes to it. Contact the designer through chat for help.

On a phone

1. Tap Text in the bottom toolbar, then Add a text box.

   

2. Type your text and tap Submit.
3. With your text selected, swipe the bottom toolbar for Font, Size, Color, Bold, Italic, Justify, Curve, Stroke, Shadow, Spacing, and more.
