We know that many creators use Photoshop in their day-to-day work, so we’re excited to be able to share the details about Adobe’s new AI-powered tools in Creative Cloud. Adobe has released their newest game-changer, Generative Fill. This feature works by analyzing the content of an image and automatically filling selected areas by generating new pixels with Artificial Intelligence, creating seamless results and saving endless amounts of time for rote tasks.
To get access to this new feature, you’ll need a Creative Cloud subscription. Run the Creative Cloud app and click on the “Beta” tab on the left navigation, which will give you a list of Adobe’s available Beta apps. Click the “Install” button for the Photoshop Beta app. (You can also run the app from this screen by clicking the “Open” button that will appear after installation).

After installing, and running the app, you’re greeted with this cool little splash screen:

Ok, now that you’ve got it installed, let’s get into it. Basic creative tasks like photo retouching are an obvious killer application for this technology. Whether it’s an intrusive power line marring a perfect sky, a stray tourist in your landscape shot, or a blemish on a person’s skin, Generative Fill handles these effortlessly. You simply select the unwanted object, activate the tool, and voila, it disappears, replaced by elements consistent with the surrounding context. Generative Fill doesn’t merely erase; it restores and reinvents, making your photos as pristine as they were in your imagination. It will even create multiple options to choose from for the newly-generated area, and you can regenerate the results as many times as necessary.
For example, in this photo, you can use the selection tool to make a quick selection of the surfboard, click the “Generate” button, and it will automatically remove the surfboard. You can provide a text description if you’d like to add objects, otherwise you can just leave it blank.

As you can see, the time and effort-saving nature of Generative Fill is unparalleled, especially in large-scale photo manipulation projects. Say goodbye to tedious manual work like extensive clone-stamping and other techniques! Generative Fill reduces this to a mere selection and click, offering solutions that are not just efficient, but astoundingly accurate and natural-looking. The newly-generated content conforms to the exact shape that you select, and you can even extend an existing scene to fit a particular aspect ratio:

It is worth noting that despite its sophistication, it may occasionally yield less-than-ideal results with complex textures and/or patterns, or requests that include famous faces or characters. Adobe has trained their AI-powered tools on content they’ve licensed and paid for, which means the training dataset (the source images that the AI uses as reference when it’s first being trained to draw) is smaller than other tools that are currently available. That said, they have committed to providing regular updates, so we should continue to see improvements in output as time progresses. Most importantly, we’re excited to see what you and other creators on Zazzle come up with using these new tools!
