On June 30, 2009 Bowe Bergdahl deserted his post in Afghanistan. He was soon captured by the Taliban and was held until May 31, 2014 when President Obama exchanged five Taliban members from Guantanamo Bay for the release of Bergdahl. In 2015 the US Army charged Bergdahl with desertion and misbehavior before the enemy and on October 16, 2017 he entered a guilty plea. On November 3, 2017, he was sentenced to be dishonorably discharged, reduced in rank to private, and fined $1,000 per month from his pay for ten months, with no prison time. Meanwhile, several service members were injured while searching for Bergdahl after he deserted his post - yet there will be no justice for them.
