Life Imitates Art
Wednesday, January 31st, 2024
Today, January 31st, is Inspire Your Heart with Art Day! This national day seeks to raise awareness for the importance of art in its many different forms. From music, architecture, and painting to theater, film, and fashion design, art, as a concept, has had a profound impact on our society.
According to Britannica, art is defined as “a visual object or experience consciously created through an expression of skill or imagination.” Humans have been expressing themselves through art for over 100,000 years, with some of the first examples of prehistoric art being cave painting and small statuettes. Nowadays, it’s safe to say that art is truly all around us, and not just in museums! Whether you’re partial to fine art, digital art, or art hand-made by your little ones, all of these mediums have the power to move us in different ways. Did you know that engaging in artistic pursuits is good for our brains? Creating art, like doodling, sewing, or recording a guitar solo, is scientifically proven to help us lower stress, deepen our focus, and process our emotions.
Zazzle wouldn't be possible without our magnificent community of Independent Creators, whose amazing and unique artwork can be found across all of the different products on our site. Photographers, painters, graphic designers, and so many more creative individuals use our platform to showcase their extraordinary talents and give our customers an opportunity to own these unique designs. To celebrate this Inspire Your Heart with Art Day, try your hand at an art medium that interests you, or support an artist by visiting their exhibition or purchasing one of their works!
Honey-Do List
Tuesday, January 30th, 2024
We understand that, given the amount of time, effort, and planning involved in a wedding, the prospect of a post-wedding checklist – another set of errands and purchases to be completed in the aftermath of the big day – might be a… delicate matter. We wouldn’t be surprised if the thought of having more wedding-related assignments to check off a to-do list has caused your face to blanch, your palms to sweat, and your spouse to feel light-headed.
Fear not, however, because we’re about to make wrapping up these last few items a considerably less arduous task. In our "18 Must To-Dos for the Ultimate Post-Wedding Checklist" article, we guide you through the process of organizing your finances, preserving photos gathered from your family and friends, updating your legal documents and surname, and even planning a staycation or ‘mini-moon’ if you’ve had to defer having a full-blown honeymoon. Several of these – bar planning a romantic vacation – might seem like rather mundane chores, and enough to dull your post-wedding glow. Trust us, though: once these are taken care of, there’ll be nothing to stop you settling sweetly into marital bliss.
If the only word that caught your glazed eye in the last paragraph was "honeymoon," then you can also read our article on "How to Decide on Your Honeymoon Destination." Otherwise, we’d recommend visiting our wedding thank you card page, where you can find thousands of templates to help you express your gratitude to your guests for their presence and um, presents. Personalized thank you notes are an excellent way to leave a lasting impression on your guests – and it’s just polite to send them, too!

Find the Missing Piece?
Monday, January 29th, 2024
Believe it or not, but jigsaw puzzles hold a powerful meaning in our lives, symbolizing unity and diversity. They underscore the idea that individuals, similar to puzzle pieces, unite to form a connected bond. Regardless of our varying views and ideas, we can still find ways to coexist. Perhaps our lives mirror a puzzle, where every connection and relationship contributes to our completeness. As we celebrate National Puzzle Day, we ponder significant questions, such as when should we feel a sense of fulfillment in our lives? And what if we never discover that elusive missing piece?
Our apologies: sometimes we find ourselves stuck in a world full of what-if questions, rather than being present in the moment! We believe, however, that no matter what enigmas life throws at you, you’re more than capable of handling them – you just need to believe! Some of us are prone to getting caught up in what others think of us or worrying about the things we could have done or said differently. Lifehack.org has a list of many things we need to consider when we initiate the process of putting ourselves first.
Every puzzle starts with the first piece, and in this case the piece is you. So, what are you going to do today or this year that might benefit you? We don’t expect you to solve this powerful question today, but may we offer you some ideas? For instance, how about noting down all your thoughts and dreams in a notebook? What about researching things you’re interested in doing, like a new hobby, class, or recreational sport, and you can save all your research notes on a USB flash drive for safekeeping. Don’t forget to have some downtime too. though! The icing on the cake to all this is that jigsaw puzzles can be seen as a form of artistic expression, helping us release creativity and inspire us to think outside the box!

International Holocaust Remembrance Day
Saturday, January 27th, 2024
Following a special session of the United Nations (U.N.) General Assembly in 2005, held to mark the 60th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi concentration camps at the end of World War II, January 27 was designated as International Holocaust Remembrance Day. Resolution 60/7 stated that, given "the murder of one-third of the Jewish people" as part of the Nazi regime’s ‘final solution’ between 1941 and 1945, there would be, henceforth, a "International Day of Commemoration" and that "educational programmes [were to be developed] which would inculcate future generations with the lessons of the Holocaust." On this day, we remember the atrocities committed across Europe by the Nazis and their collaborators and resolve never to let such violence take place again.
The Holocaust is also known as the Sho’ah (‘Catastrophe’) or the Hurban, a term used by Jews to describe the destruction of the First and Second Temples in 586 B.C.E. and 70 C.E., respectively. The systematic killing of Jewish people in the early-to-mid 1940s was, however, the culmination of several decades of anti-Semitic thinking and Nazi ideology. The oppression of Jewish people in Germany and other neighboring countries had already led to the Nuremberg Laws, Kristallnacht, and other discriminatory practices, like book burnings and boycotts, and the camps were intended to be the last stage of this ruinous process.
Any countries in which Nazi crimes were perpetuated have been "profoundly affected," according to UNESCO, with "universal implications and consequences in many other parts of the world." All U.N. Member States, therefore – and indeed, all countries – have a responsibility to ensure that the Holocaust is remembered accurately and appropriately, and that we learn about the "causes, consequences, and dynamics" of such crimes. Why not take some time today to research Jewish history and culture, or to read up on the events of World War II in particular? If we’re to keep the memory of those who died during the Holocaust alive, well, the first thing to do is to learn about what they went through.

Friday, January 26th, 2024
When was the last time you and your spouse went on a date? If you’re finding it hard to remember, it’s time to change the tune and mark January 26th in your calendar. No, we're not confusing today with Valentine's Day, It’s National Spouses Day – like Valentine’s Day cool, laid-back cousin! It’s a heartwarming celebration dedicated to honoring and appreciating the special bond between long-term partners.
It’s an opportunity to express gratitude for the love, support, and companionship that spouses bring into each other's lives. Good morning, would you like some dinner? And how about dessert as the starter?
If we seem a little bit strange, don’t worry, it’s not just us! It’s Opposite Day, that odd occasion when the rules of logic and convention get tossed out the window. So, here in the upside-down world of Opposite Day, asking about dinner in the morning is not only acceptable but downright encouraged!
This confusing but extremely fun celebration where left is right and up is down is the antidote to the ordinary. Marked on January 25th, this day flips the script on convention, inviting everyone to embrace this comical chaos of opposites.
Imagine a world where cats bark, and everyone walks on their hands – that's the essence of Opposite Day! But it doesn't need to go that far, thankfully. Simply engaging in playful chat with your colleagues and friends is already testing the limits of communication with sentences that can only make sense on a day like today. This day can also be a fun and goofy occasion for children to learn the concept of opposites in a fun and interactive way (perhaps by using our design tool to create your own unique, opposite-embracing design).
So, today is not just a day; it’s a reminder that embracing the unexpected can bring a smile and a burst of laughter to even the most mundane moments. Here’s to exploring the world of the absurd and finding the ying to your yang!

Do You Want a Pen?
Tuesday, January 23rd, 2024
Do you recall the early days of school, when we were first taught to write with pencils, and our teachers would assess our handwriting? Back then, our progress was determined by who transitioned over to using pens from pencils first. In 2010, schools in many states altered their curriculum by discontinuing the mandate for cursive writing. However, as of 2023, up to 23 states have reintroduced the requirement for cursive writing, suggesting a resurgence of handwriting within our education system.
Today, we celebrate National Handwriting Day, and with that, we encourage you all to find a reason to put pen to paper. Reflecting on a challenging day, winding down by journaling about your experience, and contemplating how things could have unfolded differently can be quite therapeutic. Although modern technology offers various ways to keep a journal, there's a unique satisfaction that comes with using a pen and paper, at least in our view. Perhaps, on this special occasion, consider seizing the moment to craft a heartfelt love letter to your significant other.
If you’re in need of some pens, notebooks, or Post-it notes we have plenty in store for you! Each one of them can be personalized to your liking or could make a great gift for a friend. Engaging in handwritten tasks offers several advantages, with reduced distractions being a notable one. When resorting to digital devices for note-taking, the presence of unanswered notifications can easily shift our focus. By jotting down everything from shopping lists to life goals in a handwritten to-do list, we enhance our memory and foster accountability for our actions. There are numerous opportunities to integrate handwriting into your day, and we hope you find joy in doing so!

“Nothing is ever really lost to us as long as we remember it” - L.M. Montgomery
It’s National Good Memory Day! Observed annually on the 19th of January, this national day encourages us to look back on our most precious memories. On National Good Memory Day, we also celebrate the wondrous human brain, and how it has the capacity to store and retrieve moments from the past.
So, what exactly are memories? Well, according to scientists, memories are formed as a result of connections made between neurons in the brain. These new connections are known as synapses, and they form each time we have a new experience or partake in a new activity. Our good memories are very important to us all, as they can contain some of the best moments of our lives! Reminiscing on fond and nostalgic memories can help us remember loved ones or pets who may have passed on, and also feel closer to those who are still here with us. In fact, appreciating and looking back on our good memories can actually strengthen our sense of identity and purpose.
To celebrate National Good Memory Day, spend some time with loved ones and talk about your favorite memories together, or flip through some old photos and enjoy a much-needed, wholesome trip down memory lane. You could even create a heartwarming, custom photo gift for someone special! While it’s great to occasionally recall your past, there’s really no time like the present. So, get out there and make some new good memories, too!

If you’re like us and you always enjoyed seeing Pooh and his friends go on adventures then this is the day for you!

Winnie the Pooh was first written for Milne’s son Christopher Robin, the book’s about Christopher having adventures with all of his stuffed animal friends. It all started with a short story called “The Wrong Sort of Bees”, where Winnie tries to steal honey from an unsuspecting bee hive. From there, the story collection of Winnie the Pooh was published in October 1926 and was an overnight sensation in England and around the world.
"What day is it?" asked Pooh. "It's today," squeaked Piglet. "My favorite day," said Pooh. Have today be your favorite day by getting all you need from our officially licensed Winnie the Pooh Store. Hello, you’re through to Today’s Moment, how may we help you? We’re just joking – happy National Customer Service Day to one and all! Today is a sacred day where we show appreciation to the people behind the cash registers, over the phone, or online who help us with our daily needs. Essentially, we could make contact with some level of customer service any time of the day. You might have even thanked Google or Alexa today, though we're not sure they count!
As we advance further into the realm of artificial intelligence, we ponder the origins of these automated jobs. Is the emphasis on convenience rather than quality evident in resolving issues through online portals? With the prevalence of self-service checkouts, website chatbots, and certain hotels and retailers opting for a staff-free experience, we contemplate whether this direction represents the path forward.
Well, we can certainly vouch for ourselves when we say we want to hold onto our 100% customer satisfaction guarantee. Along with helping you with your queries via email, our super-talented customer service agents will be assisting you via our chat service and phone. As we begin a new year, we’d like to wish all our amazing customers a prosperous new year, and we hope each day brings new happiness, new goals, and a lot of new inspirations in your life. We look forward to interacting with you again, real soon!
It’s Time for Nothing!
Tuesday, January 16th, 2024
National Nothing Day, marked on January 16th each year, challenges the hustle and bustle of daily life by celebrating the art of doing, well, nothing! Created by columnist Harold Pullman Coffin in 1973, this unusual day encourages people to take a break from the usual chaos and embrace a moment of peaceful nothingness.
In a world that often glorifies productivity and constant activity, National Nothing Day is here as an opportunity for everyone to unwind and appreciate the beauty of simplicity. It's not about being lazy; it serves more as a reminder to pause, reflect, and celebrate the quiet moments that are often overpowered by the noise of daily routines.
On National Nothing Day, activities such as reading a book, taking a stroll, or simply enjoying a few minutes of stillness are celebrated. The day also sparks creativity, encouraging us to find joy in the absence of tasks and deadlines and move our focus to something we're passionate about.
Whether you choose to indulge in a day of genuine relaxation or find a humorous way to celebrate the concept of nothing, National Nothing Day offers a break from the constant motion of modern life, encouraging a brief but blissful pause for yourself – because nothing is more important than you!

Honoring Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Monday, January 15th, 2024
It’s hard to overstate the importance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. In the eleven years between 1957 and 1968, according to NobelPrize.org, King "traveled over six million miles and spoke over twenty-five hundred times, appearing wherever there was injustice, protest, and action." Not only was King an accomplished orator, but he was a prolific author and essayist, a member of the executive committee of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), and the orchestrator of several defining moments in the Civil Rights Movement, including the Montgomery Bus Boycott and the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. Dr. King is, without question, one of the most influential figures of the twentieth century.
Despite his considerable, wide-ranging achievements, Martin Luther King Day – a national holiday held in honor of the late civil rights leader and theologian – has only been celebrated in all 50 states since 2000. While the concept of Martin Luther King Day was posited almost as soon as King had been assassinated, the legislation to introduce the federal holiday was only signed in 1983 by President Ronald Reagan (and a little reluctantly, too). Prior to that, the bill had been rejected in the House of Representatives and had received limited congressional support for almost 15 years. Fortunately, King's advocates, including his widow, Coretta Scott King, finally succeeded in their ambitions to dedicate the third Monday in January to his memory.
This year, Martin Luther King Day falls on King's birthday, January 15, and because of that, the King Center, a nonprofit organization founded in 1968 and conceptualized by the Baptist minister himself, is holding some special events. Visit the website to learn more about King’s vision, and in particular, his philosophy of nonviolence. And if you’d like to read even more about this topic, check out their list of recommended writings – which includes the five books King found time to write himself!
New Year, New Us
Saturday, January 14th, 2024
Recently, the Today’s Moments team has been buoyed by initiatives like International Creativity Month and Stick to Your New Year’s Resolution Day. Several of our writers can be found in the park on dewy mornings, practicing either yoga or tai chi, and others can be seen building spreadsheets, blogging incessantly, and stamping out cigarettes. Although a study by Scranton University, quoted by Forbes, suggests that only 19% of people keep their resolutions past mid-January, we’re feeling quietly confident about February, too.
What’s the secret to our success, you ask? Well – besides the inspiration we find through our Today’s Moment research – we’d have to say that it’s because we’ve been prioritizing our physical, mental, and emotional health. Investing in your physical health means creating a workout plan, drinking more water, and getting a monthly massage; when it comes to your mental health, you should meditate, limit your time spent on social media, and take up a new hobby or activity. Finally, in terms of emotional health – which is probably the aspect that most people neglect – you could spend more time with family and reconnect with old friends, thereby improving your mood and expanding your support network.
We’ve included all our tips in this article over on Zazzle Ideas: "15 Life-Changing Ways to Start the New Year Off Right." Think of these as behaviors or changes you can implement that are adjacent to your New Year’s resolutions; for example, by regulating your sleep schedule and stretching your muscles more, you’ll make progress towards your goal of getting fit. Of course, if you still haven’t decided on a New Year’s resolution, there’s still time for that as well! Read our "New Year, New You: New Year’s Resolution Ideas for 2024" article to hear some of our suggestions!

A Life Well Lived
Saturday, January 13th, 2024
Losing a loved one is never easy, and despite the well-worn advice that time heals all wounds and that broken hearts can be mended, it’s hard to feel, upon the death of a friend, family member, or even a neighbor or colleague, that the world will ever return to normal. If you’re reading this Today’s Moment having recently lost someone close to you – or even if it was some time ago – then we’re sorry to hear it, and hope that we’ll be able to provide you with a constructive, positive course of action.
You see, one way that you can respectfully honor the deceased – while still hosting an event that’s uplifting and social – is by planning a ‘celebration of life.’ Unlike a funeral or memorial service, which typically takes place soon after the person’s death, a celebration of life can be held at any time, can be as secular or spiritual as you wish, and makes the decedent’s personality and interests the main focus of the tribute. Whether it’s through the music chosen, the décor selected, or the stories related, it’s an opportunity for friends and family to gather in a venue that’s completely infused with fond memories of the person, thus delivering some much-needed closure and catharsis.
According to Memorial Planning.com, celebrations of life can "often feel like a breath of fresh air," thanks to their upbeat tone and emphasis on the person as opposed to the ritual. If you’d like to learn more about this increasingly popular tradition – and pick up some tips about how to schedule one – read our "How to Plan a Celebration of Life" article on Zazzle Ideas. A celebration of life might not be for everyone, but for those families it does suit, we think it’ll be an unforgettable experience.

New Beginnings, Again
Friday, January 12th, 2024
Making resolutions is easy, and it’s a fun way to fritter away the liminal days between Christmas and New Year, thinking of new hobbies to take up, bad habits to quit, and good behaviors to practice. Keeping New Year’s resolutions, however, is much more challenging, and requires a considerable amount of commitment and perseverance. According to a study in 2020 cited by Very Well Mind, 55% of people believe themselves to be successful at maintaining their New Year’s resolutions, but despite the scholarly research on display here, we think this is overly generous: most people can’t even remember their goals by Valentine’s Day!
Still, it would be nice to get more regular exercise, to spend more time with your family, and to start a gratitude journal, wouldn’t it? On January 12 – also known as Stick to Your New Year’s Resolution Day – we’re encouraging you to steel your resolve, and to set yourself the target of preserving that new routine – if only for one day at a time. People tend to make New Year’s resolutions because of what’s known as the ‘fresh start effect’: "temporal landmarks can motivate aspirational behaviors." In other words, we’re more likely to make plans and set goals when it’s the start of a new week, month, or year. In order to sustain that feeling, however, we need to hold ourselves accountable, write down our objectives and what we’re going to do to achieve them, but, above all, forgive ourselves if we slip up.
If you want more advice on getting 2024 off to a positive start, then check out our article on "15 Life-Changing Ways to Start the New Year Off Right." Remember, too, that while conventional wisdom says that it takes 21 days to form or break a habit, this is largely a myth, and it’s dependent on both the habit and the individual. Don’t despair if you find yourself having to reset the clock more than once; the important thing is that you keep trying. Your hard work will pay off in the end!

January Unleashed
Thursday, January 11th, 2024
When was the last time you created something new? It might have been a fabulous new work or art, or maybe it was something you weren't even aware was a result of your creativity. Sometimes it can be something as simple as creating a new recipe or setting up a new flower display in your home.
We’re currently moving through International Creativity Month, celebrated in January. It encourages everyone to unleash their imaginative potential, and fosters innovation and self-expression. Founded by motivational speaker Randall Munson, this month serves as a reminder that creativity is a skill inherent in every person and can be cultivated in various forms.
During this month, people are encouraged to explore and engage in various creative outlets, from the arts and sciences to everyday problem-solving. Whether through writing, painting, dancing, coding, or any other form of self-expression, we welcome you to think outside the box and celebrate the richness of unique ideas. Perhaps the ideas you formulate during this month can even inspire projects for the year ahead!
Essentially, January is all about letting your creativity run wild! As the famous Einstein quote states “Creativity is intelligence having fun,” so why not dedicate this month to being extra fun – by exploring new ways of thinking and putting them out there in the world? And it doesn't need to be just for personal growth – being creative can actually help tackle big, global challenges too! Creative thinking can be applied to how we run our schools, businesses, and communities; we can integrate creative practices and problem-solving techniques that promote an atmosphere of innovation and a culture of curiosity. How fun does that sound!

Can You Be-Leaf It?
Wednesday, January 10th, 2024
During your busy schedule, take a leaf of absence from your phone and computer to look around at nature! House plants allow us to bring nature into our homes. Today is National Houseplant Day, a holiday to remind us to give our houseplants a little extra love so they can truly bloom!
National Houseplant Day was established by the Gardners Net, and is celebrated every year on the 10th of January. You may be wondering why it was made a national holiday, and what exactly do houseplants have to offer us? Plants like the Peace Lily, or the Snake Plant provide fresh oxygen and clean the air in your home! Plants can provide food for us with food to eat, or just to top off our food like herbs and spices. A plant can liven up even the smallest of rooms in your home!

Comfort Is Key!
Tuesday, January 9th, 2024
Following a fulfilling holiday season, which included diverse celebrations such as Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, Thanksgiving, Posadas Navideñas, and many other wonderful festivities, it's now time to unwind after the hectic month of December. With the weather outside being less than favorable, there's no need to venture out, which allows us to fully embrace JOMO (the joy of missing out)! This begs the question: What activities can we engage in to stay warm and unwind from the comfort of our living room?
First off, you’re going to need to maximize the comfort level with fleece blankets, lumbar pillows, and body pillows. There’s no such thing as having too many pillows; we say the more the better! Now that you’re at your optimal comfort level, you’re going to need to stay hydrated and have snacks close by – insulated water bottles and serving trays would be ideal in this scenario. Why not kick things up a notch with a cheese board, too: the festive season may be over, but we can treat ourselves any time of the year! At this rate all you need to do is set the lighting with a few lamps, put on some ambient music on a Bluetooth speaker, and you’ve got yourself a super cozy set up!
Okay, now, with the coziness level sorted, it’s time to think about activities! Let's not overexert ourselves here; minimum effort only. What about a few games involving playing cards? There's very little effort needed to play, but a lot of fun to be had! You can let loose from the comfort of your home, and let go of any tension in your body through a nice relaxing yoga session! There’s so many other things you can do, but we feel we’ve reached our quota of amazing products in Today’s Moment. Tune in tomorrow to see how many products we can plug then too!
Never Give Up On Being You!
Monday, January 8th, 2024
As the new year arrives, we often find ourselves setting numerous goals, whether they span across January, or throughout the entire year. It's crucial to bear in mind that progress takes time, and just like how Rome wasn't built in a day. We all have unique qualities, along with individual abilities and strengths, which improve our mental and psychological welfare when we take the necessary time to grow over time. What works for one person may not necessarily work for another. In celebration of National Reach Your Potential Month, it's time to find your own way!
In the wise words of Fleetwood Mac's classic song: "You Can Go Your Own Way," stepping into the unknown may seem daunting, but with the right support and tools, you might surprise yourself with the capabilities within you. In 2024, as indicated by Numerology.com, it's a time to embrace your personal power, become comfortable with success, and dismiss imposter syndrome-like thoughts. Unleashing your potential doesn't necessarily have to revolve around your career; you can find fulfillment in discovering your voice or happiness through a hobby, acquiring a new skill, or engaging in a volunteer program. The primary focus should be on yourself – taking strides that make you proud of the person you’re now and the one you’re growing to be!
Now, how can we help reach your potential, you may ask! We may offer some solid advice, but we’re not trained professionals. However, we can provide little everyday pick-me-ups that you can use throughout your daily life as encouragement and inspiration such as, motivational posters, gratitude notebooks for your daily affirmations and mindset, insulated water bottles to get you hydrated, and much more! As we’ve said above, you can find your own way, so why not find exactly what you need to keep motivated right here on Zazzle!
