Smile, It's Oatmeal Cookie Day!
Saturday, April 30th, 2022
Is there anything that smells better than a fresh batch of cookies baking in the oven? We couldn't think of anything either! So today, on National Oatmeal Cookie Day, we urge you to take the time to pull out the mixing bowl and spoon and whip up some cookies! To get you started, we’ve included this easy-to-follow recipe from allrecipes. And if you’re like a lot of us, who would likely burn down the house at any attempt of baking, go to your local grocery store and pick up a box of one of America’s favorite types of cookies.
Ingredients - yields 24 servings
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 3 cups quick-cooking oats
Step 1: In a medium bowl, cream together butter, white sugar, and brown sugar. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla. Combine flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon; stir into the creamed mixture. Mix in oats. Cover, and chill the dough for at least one hour.
Step 2: Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Grease cookie sheets. Roll the dough into walnut-sized balls, and place 2 inches apart on cookie sheets. Flatten each cookie with a large fork dipped in sugar.
Step 3: Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in a preheated oven. Allow cookies to cool on a baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Luckily for you, you might not need to go out at all for any of the ingredient above. According to Jamiegeller.com, 75% of U.S. households already have oatmeal in their cupboards. This website also lists other fun facts about oatmeal, like how studies have shown that eating oatmeal daily could help reduce the risk of heart disease due to it being low in saturated fat and cholesterol.
Some families cherish their own recipe: one that has been passed down from generation to generation. Something as simple as a batch of cookies could be a gentle reminder of a loved one that has passed, and a way to allow their memory to live on is by passing the recipe down to your kids. There’s so many ways to pass these recipes down without your typical pen and paper. too, like with this apron or this serving tray. The best part is, you can upload their personal handwriting to make it even more personable.

Celebrating 42 Years of Transforming Lives, One Wish at a Time!
Friday, April 29th, 2022
Today, April 29, is World Wish Day. But before you start tossing pennies in wells, scanning the night sky for shooting stars, or hopefully splitting wishbones in an effort to earn some sort of cosmic leg-up on the competition, we should tell you that today is not about those kinds of wishes. Today, rather, is about the wishes of critically ill children. Today is a celebration of childhood, of life, and of hope. Today is a day for recognizing the great work and the rich history of the Make-A-Wish movement!
Though World Wish Day was first celebrated in 2010, its origins can be traced all the way back to this very day in 1980, and the beginning of the Make-A-Wish movement itself. Christopher James Greicius was a 7-year-old boy battling leukemia who wished to be a police officer. Rallying around the youngster, the community of Phoenix and officers with the Arizona Department of Public Safety came together to make Christopher’s wish come true. He was taken on a helicopter ride, given the opportunity to steer a patrol car, and made the first honorary highway patrolman in the history of Arizona—receiving his own uniform and badge to boot. Christopher was the first Make-A-Wish kid, but he inspired a movement that has since granted the wishes of over half a million sick children across 5 continents.
If you’d like to celebrate World Wish Day, and not only help to grant the wishes of sick kids everywhere but also give them renewed strength in their battles with illness, visit Wish.org to learn about the various ways you can get involved.

Pay It Forward, and Don't Look Back!
Thursday, April 28th, 2022
Here on Today’s Moment, we’ve covered a host of events and occasions that promote kindness in one form or another, such as ‘Random Acts of Kindness Day’ and ‘World Kindness Day.’ Well, because we believe there’s no such thing as a bad reason to be kind, we’re going to continue that pattern by telling you about Global Pay It Forward Day, which is today!
Global Pay It Forward Day is all about showing kindness to others in the hope that this can cause a ripple effect that spreads kindness throughout our world. The event was founded in 2007 by Blake Beattie, who was inspired by the Catherine Ryan Hyde novel “Pay It Forward” and the movement that sprang up following the book’s release in 1999. According to GlobalPayItForwardDay.com, the event is now celebrated in some 85 countries.
Getting involved in these worldwide celebrations yourself couldn’t be easier: simply holding doors open, buying coffees for a stranger, picking up lunch for a homeless person, donating blood, or putting money into a parking meter that’s about to expire are simply wonderful ways to pay it forward. While the focus is on random acts and showing kindness to strangers, picking out a little gift for someone in your life is another great idea. Check out our gifts hub for inspiration, and let’s create some ripples!

Gather 'round, for We Have a Tale to Tell...
Wednesday, April 27th, 2022
A long, long time ago, in a magical land far, far away, a man dreamt up an event called ‘National Tell a Story Day’… Actually, much to our disappointment, National Tell a Story Day doesn’t quite have the fairy tale origins we’d hoped for. A long, long time ago, was actually 2009. And, the magical land we mentioned was—it appears—just Illinois. And the man who dreamt it all up? Well, most online sources agree that he was one George Rafeedie, the owner of a marketing agency. Yeah, it’s a story that could really use a few dragons or something, but nonetheless, we think National Tell a Story Day is worth marking, and here’s why…
Children are, of course, central to any discussion about the merits of storytelling. Whether it’s through reading books or retelling stories you heard as a kid, you can enhance your child’s language skills and emotional development, teach them about the world and provide moral guidance, stimulate imagination and curiosity, and strengthen their relationship with you. However, storytelling impacts more than just children. According to Kiran Singh Sirah, president of the International Storytelling Center, telling personal stories can be empowering for us all, while listening to the stories of others can broaden perspectives and create connections between people of differing backgrounds. “Regardless of what is going on out there in the world, what truly matters is our humanity,” Sirah explains. “Stories help us understand one another on a human level.”
So, we suggest you make today about stories, and culture, and connections. Read a book to your kids, or let them do a little storytelling of their own. And if you have a story you’d like to tell to a wider audience, grab and notebook and a pen, and see where they take you!

Let's Get Organized!
Tuesday, April 26th, 2022
If you’ve long been promising to bring a little more order into your life, today’s the perfect day to make a start. That’s right, it’s time to dispense with all the chaos and clutter, because April 26 is Get Organized Day!
We’re not going to regale you with the long and storied history of Get Organized Day, because, to be honest, it doesn’t really seem to have one. However, any occasion that can motivate us to make positive changes in our lives is worth recognizing. The benefits of being organized are manifold, with some being rather obvious and others not so much. It stands to reason that becoming more organized will enhance focus and increase productivity. This can, in turn, reduce stress levels, improve sleep, and free up more time for leisure pursuits, exercise, and preparing healthy meals. What’s surprising, though, is that organization can also have a more direct positive impact on our behaviors. One study found that participants placed in an orderly room actually chose healthier snacks than those in a disorderly environment. Thus, having structure in your life will not only free up more time for healthy activities, but it might also make you more likely to spend that time pursuing those healthy activities.
If you’d like to get organized today, or any other day, Zazzle is here to help! Over at Zazzle Ideas, you’ll find a wealth of information on how to start organizing your life and environment. Articles such as “Quick and Easy Ways to Organize Your Home Office,” “10 Apps to Keep You Organized and Productive,” “Magic Ways to Keep Your Kitchen Organized,” and “How to Organize Your Life” are all available for you to read for free right now!

Life's a Picnic!
Sunday, April 24th, 2022
Grab yourself a wicker basket, some snacks, and a suitably quaint check blanket, and head for your favorite outdoor spot, because today is National Picnic Day!
While the origins of National Picnic Day are relatively recent, the history of the picnic itself goes back centuries. The English word derives from the French ‘pique-nique,’ which, according to History Today, “may derive from the verb piquer (‘to peck’ or ‘to pick’) and the noun nique (‘a small amount.’)” The word first appeared in a famous work of French satire, used as an ironic name for the gluttonous lead character. Regardless of the word’s origins, by the late 17th century the term was being used to describe popular, pot luck-style dinners to which everyone brought a dish or drink. At that point, however, the pique-nique was still an indoor gathering. Why these meals were subsequently moved outdoors is unclear, but it was the French Revolution and the resultant migration of the country’s aristocracy that spread the picnic to other parts of Europe.
Today, of course, picnics are popular worldwide, and are a wonderful way to enjoy the spring weather and scenery. If you’re a picnic novice and you’d like some tips, check out our guide to “Planning the Perfect Picnic” over at Zazzle Ideas. While you won’t be able to use them for National Picnic Day 2022, you can also find supplies like blankets, coolers, and even snacks for future picnics right here at Zazzle! Bon Appétit!

Mother Earth Needs Our Help!
Friday, April 22nd, 2022
In 1967, Louis Armstrong first sang about trees of green—and red roses too. He sang about skies of blue, clouds of white, bright blessed days, and dark sacred nights. Then, Satchmo concluded with the joyously awestruck and now famous words "What a Wonderful World!" However, around the same time, there was growing concern in the United States that the health of our wonderful world was actually deteriorating and that the planet needed saving from, well, us! This concern gave birth to the modern environmental movement and resulted in the first Earth Day on April 22, 1970. Today, Earth Day is, fittingly, a more global celebration, and one that is even more important than it was 52 years ago!
These days, despite a much greater level of awareness regarding environmental issues, we continue to have an over-reliance upon fossil fuels and factory farming, and at least 14 million tons of plastic ends up in our oceans every year. Meanwhile, according to the World Meteorological Organization, the decade 2011–2020 was the warmest on record, and the year 2020 was among the 3 warmest recorded years globally. For these reasons, the theme of Earth Day 2022 is “Invest In Our Planet,” with organizers attempting to rally us all to act individually, and together, to “preserve and protect our health, our families, our livelihoods.”
To find out how you can get involved, visit EarthDay.org. On a much smaller scale, you can also help the planet by reducing your everyday single-use plastic and paper waste with a reusable water bottle or coffee cup from Zazzle!

Create Your Own Destiny
Thursday, April 21st, 2022
Innovation and creative thinking are highly regarded at Zazzle, and they’re in abundance here too: we’re privileged to have a team – and a client base – that consistently displays talent and ingenuity in every project, contact, and order they undertake.
Creativity isn’t in short supply at Zazzle, then, but were we to start clamoring for more, we’d do it on April 21: World Creativity and Innovation Day. In 2017, April 21 was designated as WCID by the United Nations, aiming to “raise awareness of the role of creativity and innovation in all aspects of human development.” New, groundbreaking thinking can take the form of experimental literature and thought-provoking art, but it’s also evidenced in problem solving and entrepreneurship, as the world strives to combat climate change and overconsumption in unconventional – but ethical – ways.
Should you feel like flexing your creative muscles, well, we’re not short of places to direct you! On a global scale, you can take a look at the World Creativity and Innovation Week homepage, where you can avail of information and resources about WCID. And on a smaller, more immediate level, you can head to Zazzle Create, and use thousands of different fonts, graphics, and filters to produce digital content and physical products.

Write This Way!
Wednesday, April 20th, 2022
Okay, we’ll admit it: while we love the practicality of email, the functionality of social media, and the versatility of HTML, we’d much prefer to communicate with each Zazzle customer through old-fashioned pen and paper. And on April 20, or World Stationery Day, we feel that urge more strongly than ever.
It may seem that the art of handwriting is beginning to die out, with the ubiquity of email, IM, and even video calls. However, writing has already weathered many changes and advancements in technology: the Dispilio Tablet, located in Greece in 1993, is believed to be 7,000 years old. Although writing originally developed as a means to transfer and distribute information, it evolved into a means of keeping records, conducting financial transactions, and even composing literature and religious texts.
April 20 wasn’t chosen arbitrarily as the date for World Stationery Day; the first WSD was held in 2015, on the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta, a charter of rights and freedoms agreed to by King John of England in 1215. While we’re not expecting you to replicate that 3,550-word document right now, we do encourage you to sample our stationery, peruse our pens, and make a note of our many, many notebooks. Write in and tell us what you think?

Today’s National Hanging Out Day, but before you put back on your pajamas, order takeout, and rig up the PS5, know that we’re not actually talking about lounging, reclining, unwinding, or socializing. No, National Hanging Out Day refers to the act of sun drying clothes, thereby reducing energy consumption, and we celebrate it on April 19 every year.
According to Best Drying Rack.com, using a clothesline instead of a machine dryer will cut your energy bill by 8% on average. And as National Day Calendar points out, there are numerous other benefits to hanging out your laundry: you reduce your carbon footprint, get extra sunshine and vitamin D, and it even encourages you to slow down, mindfully drying and hanging clothes instead of racing back and forth to the machine. Clothes dryers can be expensive, too, and need to be allocated space in a kitchen or utility room that you might not always have!
National Hanging Out Day was, until 2017, sponsored by Project Laundry List – an organization that championed outdoor drying, and advocated for the “right to dry”: the idea that people should be able to hang clotheslines even in busy apartments and private housing developments. While the group appears to have disbanded, its message lives on, so why not continue their out-standing work by hanging up some Zazzle apparel in your yard?

Sites to Behold
Monday, April 18th, 2022
Today’s Moment is undeniably international, and encompasses nations from Albania to Zimbabwe! April 18 is World Heritage Day, or, to give the event its official title, International Monuments and Sites Day.
The World Heritage Convention – a policy adopted at the UNESCO General Conference in 1972 – states that “[the] deterioration or disappearance of any items of cultural or natural heritage constitutes a harmful impoverishment of the heritage of all the nations of the world.” The preservation of historic sites and buildings is a concern for the whole world’s population, in other words, and in 1982, the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) proposed that there be a ‘World Heritage Day’ in acknowledgment of this fact. UNESCO approved the proposal the following year, and encouraged people to work for the conservation and protection of these spectacular locations.
GDRG.org suggests that the best way to observe World Heritage Day is to visit your nearest ICOMOS site, but they also recommend holding discussions or lectures in cultural centers, planning exhibitions, and raising awareness among children about the significance of these locations. You can see the full list – comprising 1,154 entries – here, and even download photos and information about all 167 countries!

Never Forget!

Elephants are one of the world’s most beautiful creatures: they’re powerful but gentle, wise but playful, and possess a sense of community and family that’s almost unsurpassed in the animal kingdom. Sadly, however, and despite their prehistoric magnificence, elephants are in danger.
Elephants have long held a pivotal role in art, culture, and religion. Perhaps because of their size and intelligence, elephants have always been revered, and depictions of the world’s largest land mammal have been found in Gothic architecture, Buddhist temples, and even cave paintings. Due to their precious ivory tusks, however, the poaching of elephants continues to this day, with all three types – the African bush, the African forest, and the Asian elephant – currently listed as endangered species.
Save the Elephant Day is commonly confused – or blended together, purposefully – with World Elephant Day; the latter takes place on August 12, and was initiated by documentary filmmaker Patricia Sims and the Elephant Reintroduction Foundation of Thailand in 2012. Regardless of the season, however, it’s always a good idea to consider supporting those organizations that are helping elephants to avoid extinction, such as the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), the Elephant Crisis Fund (ECF), and, based in Samburu National Reserve in Kenya, the Save the Elephants charity itself.

The Animation Sensation That's Sweeping the Nation!
Friday, April 15th, 2022
In 2003, at the 75th Academy Awards, Spirited Away became the first – and to this date, only – hand-drawn movie to win the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. Spirited Away was produced by a company known as Studio Ghibli, was directed by Hayao Miyazaki, and was, until recently, Japan’s highest-grossing film of all time. It’s also one of the best-known examples of anime in the west.
But what IS anime?
While, in Japan, anime – pronounced ‘ah-nee-may’ – refers to all animation produced within the country, in the U.S. and elsewhere, anime constitutes any animated series or feature film that comes from Japan. Anime is a huge industry, with over 400 different production companies active in Japan, along with a wide variety of related media: most anime are adaptations of manga – comic books, essentially – and also spawn novelizations, radio dramas, and video games. Compared to Western animation, anime is also more generically diverse: while animation in the U.S. is usually either comedy for adults or action for kids, anime encompasses romance, sci-fi, crime, and horror.
Some of the most popular anime outside Japan include Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and Dragon Ball Z, but other classics include Cowboy Bebop, Fullmetal Alchemist, Bleach, One Piece, Death Note, and Naruto, along with the works of Miyazaki and Satoshi Kon. On April 15, National Anime Day, we have more reason than ever to watch these thought-provoking movies and series, and to learn more about Japan’s history, language, and worldview.

Pillow Talk!
Thursday, April 14th, 2022
Pillows can add that extra-special touch to your living room, bedroom, porch, and other cozy areas in your home! But what's better than regular pillows? Custom pillows, of course! With Zazzle, you can create beautiful, high-quality accent pillows to complement your space.
Humans have been using pillows for a long time! Did you know that the earliest known use of pillows is in Ancient Mesopotamia, which dates back to 7000 B.C.E.? However, unlike the soft pillows of today, the first pillows were hard, and made of stone! Pillows then became a popular household item during the Industrial Revolution, in 1760. Pillows were, at this time, then produced in big textile factories, becoming cheaper and more accessible to the masses. Today, pillows are used for sleeping, for comfort, and for decoration!
At Zazzle, we offer many different types of pillows, from lumbar pillows and round pillows to throw pillows and square pillows, so there's something for everyone's tastes! We also offer the option to have your pillow made in polyester or cotton, have a zipper or be zipperless, and even offer special outdoor pillows. Upload your own imagery and artwork in our design tool, or choose from our marvelous selection of designs made by our Independent Creators!

Look on the Pink Side of Life
Wednesday, April 13th, 2022
Put on your rose-tinted glasses, because today is officially International Day of Pink! International Day of Pink is a worldwide anti-bullying and anti-homophobia event held annually. This day strives to raise awareness on the important issues of discrimination, homophobia, transphobia, transmisogyny, and more.
International Day of Pink was started in 2007 when high school students David Shepherd and Travis Price witnessed a gay student being bullied for wearing a pink shirt in Nova Scotia, Canada. The two boys then decided to show support for the student by encouraging everyone at their school to wear pink the following day! This supportive gesture inspired the Canadian Centre for Gender and Sexual Diversity to establish the International Day of Pink. This day aims to offer love and support to LGBTQIA+ people internationally, and provide resources to make our schools safer.
To take part in International Day of Pink, make sure to wear a pink shirt! It’s also important to remember that this national day means more than just wearing a colored shirt. Educate yourself and others on the important issues at hand, and make sure to be an LGBTQIA+ ally all year round! If you need some pink clothing in a pinch, check out our pink section!

A Paw-sitively Amazing Day!
Monday, April 11th, 2022
It’s National Pet Day! Furry (feathery, and scaly) friends can bring an endless supply of joy, love, and cherished memories to our lives. Whether you have a dog, a cat, a bird, or a fish, today is the paw-fect day to celebrate pets and all they do for us.
As well as simply being an adorable companion, pets can also bring a number of health benefits to their owners! Pets, especially dogs and cats, can reduce stress and depression, ease anxiety, and even encourage exercise that improves cardiovascular health. Caring for pets can teach children valuable traits like responsibility and selflessness, and owning a pet can significantly reduce loneliness for elderly people. Humans have kept pets for a long time, but it’s hard to tell exactly when humans started to care for pets. Evidence shows that dogs were domesticated twice: once in Europe 16,000 years ago, and in Asia some 14,000 years ago, from two separate wolf lineages!
Pets are happy just to spend time with you, but if you’d like to show your pet some extra appreciation, why not get them an awesome, personalized gift from our pet supplies section? From bowls to bandanas, there’s something for everyone! If you don’t own a pet, you could donate to your local animal shelter, or volunteer your services. They will fur-sure appreciate it!

Be Gone, Stress.
Friday, April 8th, 2022
April is officially Stress Awareness Month! But what exactly is stress? Stress is defined as a feeling of emotional or physical tension, that can come from an event or thought that makes you feel frustrated, angry, or nervous. We all experience stress, albeit in very different ways. No one is immune to stress, so it’s important to learn healthy ways of coping with stress, and ways to reduce it.
Stress can emotionally and physically affect us. Did you know that serious issues like stroke and heart disease can occur as a result of long-term stress? According to the CDC, you can begin to reduce stress by trying to eat healthy, getting exercise regularly, and sleeping well. It’s also important to discuss any of the issues causing you stress with a parent, friend, or another trusted source. If you feel you might need more help in terms of managing your stress, make sure to contact a healthcare professional or counselor.
Above all, remember to take care of yourself, take breaks when they're needed, and make time to relax. We’re proud of you, you’re doing great!

Health Is Wealth!
Thursday, April 7th, 2022
Did you know that World Health Day takes place annually on April 7th? This is a day when the world comes together to recognize the importance of living in a clean, healthy, and fruitful environment. Continue reading this Zazzle Moment to gain a better understanding of World Health Day and its importance to society and everyday life!
With rising sea levels, an increase in greenhouse gasses, and widespread food shortages, there has never been a better time to acknowledge the need for a healthy and greener society. The World Health Organization (WHO) has estimated that over 13 million deaths from around the world are linked to environmental causes. Feeling Lucky?

Sunshine, lollipops, and RAINBOWS: those colorful arches that bring a smile to one's face, especially after a storm. They're known for inspiring positivity and maybe even some luck (if you can find the pot of gold at the end). Rainbows are also a symbol of hope, diversity, new beginnings, equality, and peace. So today, out of all days, we hope you have the chance to see a rainbow, whether it comes naturally from the rain outside, or you take it upon yourself to hunt one down on a t-shirt or poster because today's National Find a Rainbow Day!
“The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain," says Dolly Parton. And she's right: rainbows are created when sunlight reflects off rain droplets. The light waves bounce off of wavelengths that make up the electromagnetic spectrum. Once the spectrum is separated, a rainbow is formed. There are 7 colors that produce a rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. And how’s this for a fun fact: you can only see a rainbow if the sun is behind you and the rain is in front.
It should come as no surprise that Zazzle, a website that has thousands of Independent Creators, would have a diverse range of rainbow designs. So let us share a few of our favorites! Starting off with a cool adult t-shirt and kids t-shirt too. How about some home décor? We love this rainbow affirmations poster and throw pillow! These rainbow designs and much more can all be found here on Zazzle!

World Autism Awareness Day
Saturday, April 2nd, 2022
Light up blue! April 2nd marks World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD), a day that recognizes the importance of understanding and raising awareness for those with autism. This year marks the 15th anniversary of WAAD, at a time where 1 in 44 children in America are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
Major strides have been made in recent years, with the introduction of sensory rooms, autism-friendly shopping hours, and movie theaters, which have aimed to provide a more enjoyable experience for those with autism. For example, movie theaters have introduced specific autism-friendly screenings, where the lights are left on, the volume is lowered, and trailers usually shown before the movie are removed. Even with these positive changes, World Autism Awareness Day is a chance to learn and implement even more benefits for people living with autism.
So how can you support World Autism Awareness Day? There are many different ways to support this day! You can make a meaningful donation, spread awareness and positivity on social media, or take time to educate yourself and others. Happy April Fools’ Day!
Friday, April 1st, 2022
Did you know that April 1st always falls on a Wednesday?
…
We got you, Happy April Fools’ Day! We’ve all been pranked on April Fools’ Day, whether it’s been a ‘kick me’ sign placed on your back or tape stuck to the bottom on your computer mouse so it just won’t move. This type of behavior is absolutely encouraged on April Fools’ Day, but where did it start?
The first prank on record was pulled way back in 1582; however, it wasn’t intended to be a prank. At this time, France, which had been using the Julian calendar, decided to switch to the Gregorian calendar. This change led to some confusion, as news of the exchange was slow to reach parts of France. As January 1st had now become the first day of the new year, those who still recognized April to be the first day of the year, as set out in the old calendar, became known as the 'April Fools.' Obviously, pranks have changed drastically since then!
Looking for April Fools’ Day inspiration as you’re sick of the same old pranks? Look no further! Reader’s Digest has compiled “50 Funny April Fools’ Pranks to Pull in 2022,” or, if you’re looking for a more low-key prank suitable for the office that won’t get you into trouble, check out “10 Fun April Fools Office Pranks That Won’t Get You Fired.” April Fools’ Day is only recognized one day out of the year, so we hope you have a good one, filled with knee-slapping jokes and unexpected tricks!
