Why You Should Consider a Fall Wedding!

Friday, September 30th, 2022

When you've put a lot of thought into the perfect date for your wedding, setting the scene is just as important! Summer can be too hot, and spring and winter can be unpredictable and cold, but Autumn makes us fall in love with the colors forming in our trees and plants, milder temperatures, and the colorful holidays of Halloween and Thanksgiving. In addition, this is an ideal time of year to plan your dream wedding around rustic themes and colors.

There are so many costs associated with weddings, and planning one during the fall season may save you some money. Take a trip to a local woodland area and embrace the foliage: you can create bouquets, a wedding arch, and centerpieces all from the branches, leaves, and flowers you find. Create a homebrew of apple cider that guests can enjoy on arrival. If you want your reception to be outside, rent a barn and decorate it using natural resources like sunflowers and pumpkins.

Ultimately, what matters most is marrying the person you love and want to spend your life with. With a little creativity, you can craft the perfect setting in no time. All you need is some inspiration for rustic weddings and we’re sure everything will fall into place.

Where Have You Bean All My Life!

Thursday, September 29th, 2022

September 29th marks a special holiday – National Coffee Day! While most of us don't need a holiday to indulge in our morning juice, it's not a bad idea to experiment with other coffee blends. Today we're spilling the beans on the origins of National Coffee Day and why it's the perfect day to celebrate.

We're not sugarcoating things here. In 1773, coffee became popular in America due to a British tea tax. People favored coffee in protest against the British tax. From there, coffee became a national treasure and made its way over to Canadian soil. National Coffee Day was introduced in 2013 to help independent coffee shops and struggling coffee farmers around the world. If you're feeling good today, maybe you'll venture out to a local coffee shop and see what they have to offer (or milk them dry), your choice!

We’re not here to fool you with average coffee-related products, we’re here to sweeten the deal by making your coffee choices more enjoyable. If you look closely, you may find some high-quality travel mugs or some cute tumblers for your iced coffees, and even an ideal gift for a fellow coffee lover in your life. If you need to find some common ground with friends who don't like coffee, I'm sure you could stumble upon some health benefits too. We’ve given it our best shot, the rest is up to you!

A Cure for What Ales Ya!

Wednesday, September 28th, 2022

As we previously informed you here on Today’s Moment, Oktoberfest got underway last week, but while the infamously boozy German folk festival continues apace in Munich, there’s also a great excuse for us at home to enjoy a few brews as well. September 28, you see, is National Drink Beer Day! Don’t mind if I do!

When most Americans hear the word beer, chances are that popular lagers such as Budweiser, Coors Light, and Pabst Blue Ribbon are the first brews that come to mind. Today, however, thanks to the influx of international beers and the ingenuity of microbrewers, there’s a vast selection of beer styles available to consumers. Even within the broad category of lager, you’ll find a multitude of sub-styles, with the Pilsners, Maerzens, and Bocks traditional to Europe coexisting alongside American light and amber lagers on our shelves. Then, there’s stouts, porters, and IPAs—each of which have spawned their own individual sub-styles—to boot. And we haven’t even scratched the surface. In fact, in their 2022 style guidelines, the Brewer’s Association lists well over 100 beer styles in existence today!

If you’d like to try a something new to celebrate National Drink Beer Day, but you feel a little overawed by the incredible variety of beers available, check out “6 Craft Beers You Should Know About” over at Zazzle Ideas. You might also be interested in perusing our wonderful selection of glassware, where you’ll discover high-quality customizable pint glasses, pilsner glasses, beer mugs, and steins. Here’s to National Drink Beer Day! Have an ale of a time! Cheers!

Shana Tovah

Monday, September 26th, 2022

If you’re not of the Jewish faith, you may be unaware that we’re currently in the middle of one of the Judaism’s most important periods of the year. Yesterday, you see, was the beginning of Rosh Hashanah, a festival often referred to as Jewish New Year.

Rosh Hashanah takes place on the first day of Tishrei, the seventh month on the Hebrew calendar. Its date on the Gregorian calendar, then, varies from one year to the next. This year, the festival began at sunset yesterday and will continue until nightfall tomorrow. The holiday commemorates the creation of the world and man—specifically Adam and Eve—by God. It’s also known as Yom Teruah, a phrase for which you’ll see a range of different translations online—from “Feast of Trumpets” to “Day of Shouting or Blasting.” This refers to the holiday’s association with an instrument called a shofar, which is a kind of trumpet made from the horn of a ram. According to History.com, “tradition requires the shofar blower to play four sets of notes on Rosh Hashanah: tekiah, a long blast; shevarim, three short blasts; teruah, nine staccato blasts; and tekiah gedolah, a very long blast.” This is considered to be something of a wake-up call. As Rabbi Sarah Krinsky puts it, “one of the purposes of shofar is to startle the spirit and to wake us out of complacency.” Rosh Hashanah is also the beginning of a period called “The Days of Awe” during which people engage in teshuva, or repentance. This period draws to a close with Yom Kippur, or the “Day of Atonement,” which begins at sunset on October 4, 2022. Shana Tovah to all who celebrate.

We're All Ears!

Saturday, September 24th, 2022

We’re hopping with excitement here at Zazzle, because today we get to celebrate one of the cutest and most beloved creatures of all. It’s September 24, the fourth Saturday of the month, and that means it’s International Rabbit Day once again!

Rabbits are positively ear-resistible, so it’s no surprise they’ve become the third most common pet in the United States. However, they’re also the third most abandoned pet in the U.S. today, routinely being left at shelters and carelessly released into the wild. One of the reasons for the large number of neglected rabbits seems to be the lack of knowledge among the public. As a 2017 article in National Geographic suggests, most people have a good understanding of what it takes to care for a dog or cat, but much fewer people understand the commitment of caring for a rabbit. The article quotes Anne Martin of the House Rabbit Society as saying that people see rabbits as “starter pets” for young children, mistakenly believing that they require less care, and this may lead to higher numbers of "impulse" purchases. This problem is only exacerbated come Eastertime, of course, when the bunny’s modern association with the holiday leads to it becoming a popular gift and something of a prop in the celebrations.

If you’re thinking of bringing a rabbit into your home, consider adopting from a shelter, and make sure you fully understand the commitment you’re making before taking the leap—or, perhaps we should say, hop! Check out MyHouseRabbit for more info. And if you’re looking for a bunny that requires much less care as an Easter gift next year, check out our officially licensed Peter Rabbit merchandise.

Tipping the Scales!

Friday, September 23rd, 2022

With Mercury still in retrograde for now, the sun has passed through Virgo and entered the seventh sign of the Zodiac, ushering in yet another Libra season.

Libra is an air sign that’s ruled by Venus and possesses a cardinal modality. It’s also the only one of the twelve Zodiac signs that is represented by an inanimate object: a set of scales based on those carried by the Greek deity Themis. Whose favor will the scales be tipped in this astrological season, though? Well, if it’s up to the Libra, they’ll remain in perfect balance. Libras are, after all, in favor of maintaining equilibrium, fairness, and harmony. Unsurprisingly, then, they're also allergic to discord, but their charm and ability to see both sides of an argument make them excellent at conflict resolution. Libras like balance in other ways too. They adore symmetry, so they're attracted to great works of art and—unsurprisingly, given that Venus is their ruling planet—beautiful people. Some famous Libras include Serena Williams, Catherina Zeta Jones, and ‘The Boss’ himself, Bruce Springsteen.

If you’d like to pick up a little gift for the special Libra in your life, it’ll have to be aesthetically pleasing! But don’t sweat, because you’ll find a host of beautiful items in our list of "Great Gift Ideas for Libras!"

It's Libra Season!

Fall Has Arrived!

Thursday, September 22nd, 2022

On March 20 of this year, we acknowledged the vernal equinox here on Today’s Moment. This event signaled the astronomical beginning of springtime in the Northern Hemisphere, while it ushered in the start of fall for folks living below the equator. Today, however, the autumnal equinox has the opposite effect, as the sun crosses the celestial equator once again—this time from north to south—and brings fall to those of us living above the earth’s imaginary centerline.

The word “equinox” comes from the Latin words aequus, which means equal, and nox, meaning night. However, despite what the name and conventional wisdom might suggest, day and night are not exactly equal during either of the equinoxes. Due to the fact that we define sunrise as the moment that the top of the sun first peaks above the horizon and sunset as the time when it fades entirely out of view, daytime is a couple of minutes longer. A factor called atmospheric refraction—which refers to our atmosphere’s ability to bend light—also lengthens the daytime. According to EarthSky.org, “atmospheric refraction raises the sun about ½ degree upward in our sky at both sunrise and sunset.” This means that we can still see the sun, even when it’s actually below the horizon. These two factors combine to give us about 10 minutes of extra daylight during the equinoxes, according to the Washington Post.

If you’re a little disappointed that the summer has come to an end, we’d like to remind you that fall is pretty great too. Check out “5 Things to Look Forward to This Fall” and “10 Fun Family Fall Activities” over at Zazzle Ideas to find out how you can make the most of this wonderful time of the year.

Peace in Our Time

Wednesday, September 21st, 2022

Established in 1981 by the General Assembly of the United Nations, the aim of the International Day of Peace is to “commemorat[e] and strengthen[...] the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples.” As of 2001, the U.N.-sanctioned holiday was fixed at September 21 each year, but such an occasion deserves a Today’s Moment every day, wouldn’t you agree?

The U.N. assigns a particular theme to the day each year; this year, the slogan is “End Racism. Build Peace,” because “achieving true peace entails much more than laying down arms.” Along with ceasefires and demilitarisation, the U.N. also wants to promote an end to all forms of conflict and discrimination – particularly in light of the pandemic, which only served to exacerbate divisions between countries and ethnic groups. The 2021 theme was “Recovering Better for an Equitable and Sustainable World,” which again championed peace and solidarity in the face of climate change and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Regardless of a year’s specific theme, though – or even what the day is called, as it’s variously known as ‘Peace Day’ and ‘World Peace Day’ – the ideals of the U.N., and of the holiday, have remained the same. This September 21, why not consider volunteering with a charity, helping out in your community, or simply mending bridges with someone you’ve had a disagreement with? Peace on a global scale starts on a local scale!

Be With You in a Moment...

Tuesday, September 20th, 2022

Where did we put Today’s Moment? It should be in the spreadsheet, but then we did print all of September’s content out yesterday… Perhaps it’s buried under that heaving pile of Zazzle Ideas articles? And did we even proofread that Moment we wrote at the last minute on Friday?

Maybe our issue is that we need to be more organized. People in the twenty-first century live remarkably scattered lives: the average U.S. household contains 300,000 items, and 40% of all housework is to do with reducing clutter. That said, there are several, tangible benefits to doing a little spring – or late-summer – decluttering: putting your disorganized belongings in better order can reduce stress levels, improve your sleep, cut down the amount of housework you need to do, and increase your Today’s Moment productivity.

With Zazzle.com, it’s easy to stay organized, and we’re surprised we didn’t think of placing a few orders earlier! Binders will keep all of our documents in the one place, and USB drives do the same, only virtually. Tote bags are useful whether we're going shopping or simply getting our clutter under control, and calendars are essential if we want to make the most of our days, weeks, months, and year. Finally, we mustn't forget a notebook or two to record your To-Do Lists... especially when it comes to any daily assignments we have on at the, um, Moment.

Everything I Brew (I Brew It for You)

Monday, September 19th, 2022

Ein, Zwei, Drei, g’suffa! Oktoberfest is about to get underway in Munich, Germany, running from September 17th to October 3rd in 2022. Not only will the event be replicated in other cities around Germany – such as Stuttgart, Berlin, and Hamburg – but the celebration of beer and Bavarian culture extends as far as Cincinnati, Ohio, where the U.S.’s largest Oktoberfest makes its post-pandemic Rückkehr (return) this year.

Drinking tankards of ambrosial German beer is certainly an important part of Oktoberfest, with six of Munich’s chief breweries represented throughout the festival: Augustiner, Hacker-Pschorr, Hofbräu, Löwenbräu, Paulaner, and Spaten. However, Oktoberfest is also an opportunity to revel in Bavarian culture as a whole, whether that’s by listening to local music, playing a host of carnival games, or wearing lederhosen and dirndl. That the ‘Fest is so deeply rooted in Bavarian culture should come as no surprise once you learn that it originally began over 200 years ago, as a way of commemorating the marriage ceremony of Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria to Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen.

If you’d like to learn more about the 187th Oktoberfest – it has been canceled 26 times, which is why we haven’t reached the 200 mark yet – then take a look at the official website. We also have plenty to drink about – sorry, think about – on Zazzle Ideas, where you’ll find “5 Classic German Beers to Serve at Your Oktoberfest Party” and, more broadly, “How to Host an Oktoberfest Party”!

Nobody ever teaches you how to study. Sure, you’re taught how to read, write, and do ‘rithmetic, but in terms of revising, absorbing, and then recalling all that information you need to relay in your SATs and college entrance exams… It’s a set of skills that are often overlooked.

That’s what Faria Sana, a psychologist at Athabasca University in Alberta, Canada, discovered when thinking back to her school days. She had used neon highlighters to underline important passages in her textbooks, but “[she] had no idea what those highlighted texts were supposed to mean.” Similarly, when it came to taking notes, it ended up merely as “[a way] to practice [her] handwriting skills.” While Sana has now mastered the art of studying and doing research, we think she could definitely have learned a thing or two from our “Study Techniques to Help You Ace Exams and Finals” article!

In this educational – but entertaining – piece, you’ll learn about the Method of Loci, whereby you plan out the content you need to memorize in the form of a journey. You’ll also be introduced to the Pomodoro Technique, which suggests that 25 minutes is the maximum amount of time you should spend on a particular topic before taking a break. And you’ll even find out that the comedian Jerry Seinfeld popularized the ‘Don’t Break the Chain’ technique, which encourages you to study consistently!

Let's Get Groovy!

Have you ever seen any of the evolution of dance videos? YouTube has a collection of these types of videos, including this recording that shows a vast range of catchy songs and the iconic dances that go along with them, dating back from the 1950s and ranging all the way up to the 2010s. But before you press play, we must warn you, it’s most likely going to be a little difficult to control yourself and extremely hard to keep your toes from tapping! What better way to celebrate National Dance Day, than by watching the evolution of dance!

Fast forward to the 2020s and these days it seems the only dances that take off are from TikTok videos. It’s reached the point where artists now rely on TikTok dances to help their new releases, alongside their previous hits which continue to climb in the rankings. Although anyone can post videos to TikTok of them dancing, the most famous TikTok dancer is Charli D’ Amelio. She has choreographed and danced her way to 144 million followers on the app with her most famous dance being to the song “Renegade”. And in case you’d like to learn, Charli will even teach you in this video!

Now you don’t need TikTok to have a little fun on National Dance Day! Simply turn up the music and bust a move! For those feeling a little more adventurous, how about signing up for some dance lessons, like line dancing or the salsa! Lastly, for something a little more futuristic, how about attending a silent disco? Whichever way you choose to spend today, ensure there’s a hop in it!

Guac Your World

Friday, September 16th, 2022

It’s no surprise that National Guacamole Day takes place on September 16: the date marks the Mexican Day of Independence, which we mentioned in Yesterday’s Moment. On this delicious holiday, we celebrate the role of this versatile dip in international and American cuisine, as well as sparing a thought for the 800 people, who, in 2017, worked to create a 3-ton serving of guacamole, thereby breaking the world record. Holy guacamole, indeed.

Guacamole is made from avocados, and has been since the 1500s, when the Aztecs made a spread called ‘ahuaca-mulli’ or ‘avocado sauce.’ Avocados then began to be grown in the U.S. in the 1830s, but between 1914 and 1997, the Hass Avocado – the most popular variety – was banned, in an effort to stop pests like weevils entering the country and infesting U.S. crops. Since the ban was lifted in 1997, however, avocados, and guacamole, have been in abundance!

Guacamole is now one of the most popular condiments in the U.S – as well as one of the most nutritious – and it’s often served with pizza, tortilla chips, or other even other sauces like salsa. We don’t sell guacamole on Zazzle.com – it creates an awful mess for the shippers– but our Independent Creators have certainly taken inspiration from it, with a whole range of guacamole-themed gifts for you to sample!

Momento de Hoy

Thursday, September 15th, 2022

National Hispanic Heritage Month was originally conceived as a week-long celebration, signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson on September 14, 1968. With Proclamation 3869, Johnson gave special recognition to “to the great contribution to our national heritage made by our people of Hispanic descent [...] in the fields of culture, business, and science.” However, under President Ronald Reagan in 1988, the event was expanded to last a month (usually between September 15 and October 15 of any given year).

The “contributions” that Johnson spoke about are, of course, vast: the Hispanic population is the largest ethnic minority in the U.S., totaling 60.6 million people in 2019. ‘Hispanic’ is a term used to refer to people who come from – or have ancestry in – Spanish-speaking countries, such as El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras; this is distinct from the ‘Latino/Latina/Latine’ community, whose origins are in Latin America as a whole. Neither term is entirely correct, however, as NPR.org points out, given their overemphasis on the European – and post-colonial – history of these countries.

The weeks between September 15 and October 15 were chosen as they also encompass other important events in Hispanic history, such as the Mexican and Chilean Days of Independence. As the nation commemorates the rich diversity of these populations this September and October, discover documents, exhibits, articles, and photos relating to Hispanic culture on the official Library of Congress website!

Dare To Care

Wednesday, September 14th, 2022

“Within you, there is a stillness and a sanctuary to which you can retreat at any time and be yourself.”— Hermann Hesse

Self-care is something that many of us often struggle to prioritize. However, self-care is an essential part of looking after yourself so you can, in turn, better look after others. Practicing self-care can awaken positive feelings such as improved self-esteem, and also reduces stress significantly.

So, what exactly is self-care? Self-care can be defined as "the practice of taking action to preserve or improve one's own physical, mental and emotional health." Self-care practices can vary greatly from person to person! Some examples of different self-care methods include meditation, calling a friend, taking a bubble bath, getting a manicure, drinking a cup of tea in the sunshine, reading a book, connecting with nature, or simply going to bed early. There are hundreds of different things that can be defined as self-care practices! The most important thing to remember in regard to self-care is that it’s all about listening to what YOUR mind and body need.

A great way to start practicing more self-care is to create a personalized self-care plan! Consider your lifestyle, time constraints, and your own personal needs to create an effective self-care plan. Your personal self-care plan will act as the perfect way to stop you from becoming overwhelmed and burned out. At Zazzle, we truly believe in the importance of self-care! From high-quality, custom bath and beauty products and fun custom mugs, to soft, comfortable bedding, we’ve got you covered.

It Pays to Be Positive

Tuesday, September 13th, 2022

“You cannot have a positive life and a negative mind.” - Joyce Meyer

It’s Positive Thinking Day! It’s time to celebrate the power of positive thinking and the many benefits of thinking in this way. Founded in 2003, Positive Thinking Day has one simple goal: to remind people to keep a positive attitude. On Positive Thinking Day, people try their best to be positive about their lives, themselves, and others.

What exactly is positive thinking, though? According to WebMD, positive thinking, or an optimistic attitude, is the practice of focusing on the good in any given situation. However, positive thinking does not mean simply sticking your head in the sand, or looking at the world through rose-colored lenses. Positive thinking is about channeling the mental attitude of optimism, and being hopeful regardless of the situation. Mental benefits of positive thinking include more creativity, greater problem-solving skills, better coping skills, clearer thinking, and a better mood. Did you know that positive thinking also offers physical benefits? Some physical benefits of thinking positively include having a longer life span, greater resistance to illnesses like the common cold, and better stress management!

Positive thinkers try to make the best out of every moment, and focus on what they can control while letting go of what they can’t control. When things do go wrong, positive thinkers tend to see these less favorable outcomes as valuable life lessons! So, go on, try your hand at some more positive thinking. We hope you have a positively amazing day, and, remember, the glass really IS half full!

Today is Positive Thinking Day!

Honoring September 11th

Sunday, September 11th, 2022

On Sept. 11, 2001, America was forever reshaped. It is now 21 years since the day that served as the true test of the American spirit. For those who are old enough to remember, it is a day that is impossible to forget. Today, people across the nation mourn the immensely tragic loss caused by these horrific attacks.

On this solemn occasion, we honor the victims, the heroic emergency workers and, of course, all of their families. People honor the memory of the lives lost in this historical event in numerous ways, each one equally valid. Communities across the nation partake in honorary practices including volunteer projects, moments of silence, candlelit vigils, 5K memorial runs and stair climbs, among much more. Even though the attacks that fell on September 11th may have been intended to break spirits, America has instead emerged a stronger and more unified nation.

As stated by Barack Obama, “Even the smallest act of service, the simplest act of kindness, is a way to honor those we lost, a way to reclaim that spirit of unity that followed 9/11."

Bear With Us

Friday, September 9th, 2022

If you go down in the woods today, you're sure of a big surprise…

It’s Teddy Bear Day! Teddy Bear Day is celebrated annually on September 9th, and aims to honor one of the world’s most popular toys, the teddy bear. Teddy Bear Day is the perfect time to reminisce on your old childhood teddy bears, and thank them for all the times they comforted you.

Teddy bears were first manufactured in Europe and America around 1902. Did you know that American toy bears were named Teddy in honor of President Theodore Roosevelt? Morris Michtom and his wife Rose decided to create a stuffed toy bear and dedicate it to the president. With Roosevelt’s permission, Morris called it 'Teddy's Bear', and then went on to start the Ideal Toy Company, manufacturing thousands of teddy bears and other toys.

If you have little ones, it’s likely they already have some favorite teddy bears, so why not arrange a fun teddy bear picnic in a local park? For snacks, we think some teddy bear-shaped sandwiches or cookies will definitely go down a treat! If you’ve kept your own old childhood bear, dig them out of the attic or storage box and share your own heartwarming nostalgic stories with loved ones. At Zazzle, we love teddy bears! If you’re looking for a new stuffed animal friend, we’ve got them all, from classic bears to lions and unicorns!

You’ve felt the colored leaves crunch under your feet, the nights are falling a little faster, and you now need to dig your favorite scarves out of your closet – fall is truly here! With the changing of the seasons often comes the need to change up your wardrobe. It's time to swap your shorts, linen shirts, and swimwear for comfy jeans, sturdy boots, and soft knits!

Fall fashion is all about layering, staying comfortable, and, above all, keeping warm! According to Pantone’s fashion color trend report, the colors that you’re likely to see this fall are neon oranges, emerald greens, olive greens, caramel browns, and golden yellows. Classic fall patterns and textures include leather (or faux leather), knitwear, plaid, and denim. This year, the jean trends we are seeing include cargo jeans, bootcut jeans, and straight-leg, distressed jeans.

As jeans are many people’s fall go-to, we think adding a custom belt in your favorite fall color is an easy way to elevate your denim! Our artisan leather tote bags or wallets are the perfect way to add some timeless class to your daily look! Keep warm on the cooler evenings with a cozy custom hoodie. And, if the weather calls for it, adding a beret, knitted headband, suede hat, or beanie to your outfit will really create an extra bit of fall vibes. We hope this fall leafs a smile on your face!

All Booked Up

Reading is one of the world’s most popular pastimes – and it’s also one of the most beneficial. Along with being a source of entertainment and escapism, reading helps to relieve stress, increase your vocabulary, improve recall, and combat cognitive decline. It’s also remarkably inexpensive, with plenty of reading material available at your local bookstore or Today’s Moment stockist.

September 6 is National Read a Book Day, you see, but you don’t necessarily need to be analyzing Faulkner or Cervantes in order to take part. Over 74% of Americans read at least one book in the past year, with those titles plucked from a diverse range of genres; whether it’s a choose-your-own-adventure memoir or a cyberpunk cookery book, there’s clearly something for everyone. Whatever you decide to read, know that you’re participating in a tradition that has existed since, at the very least, the invention of paper in 1st-century China, and which increased in popularity with the development of the printing press in 1455!

Ways to celebrate National Read a Book Day are ‘multitudinous’ (adjective, mul·ti·tu·di·nous), and we’re sure you’ll find each of our suggestions equally ‘edifying’ (adjective, ed·i·fy·ing). You could start a book club, join a library, host a book exchange, or even begin writing a book yourself! You can also take a look at this ‘erudite’ (adjective, er·u·dite) article on Zazzle Ideas: “Clever Gifts for Book Lovers (That Aren’t Books)”!

A Day for Workers

Monday, September 5th, 2022

Imagine working alongside children as young as 5 or 6 years old, working 7 days a week and 12 hours a day. This was the reality for Americans in the 1800s. In 1882, workers marched through the streets of New York City to Union Square for the first Labor Day parade to raise awareness for worker rights. These rights included safer working conditions, better wages, and implementing regulated working schedules. And 12 years later, a bill was signed to make Labor Day a national holiday in the U.S.

Although we’ve come a long way, today people will still be advocating for better working conditions in the form of marches and speeches, especially on many social media platforms. Others will take advantage of this national long weekend and attend events like parades and parties, or enjoy the kick-off of football season!

Predict Your Baby’s Gender

Sunday, September 4th, 2022

For some mothers and fathers-to-be, thinking about the gender of your baby can consume you, to the point where it’s literally all you can think about. It usually begins with the first ultrasound, when you're all jellied up and anticipating the sweet sound of the baby's heartbeat. This is the time when both you and your partner start squinting your eyes at the screen in hopes that the gender is revealed. But if you still haven’t been told the gender, consider guessing with this Zazzle Ideas article, “17 Old Wives’ Tales to Predict Your Baby’s Gender”! Although we can’t guarantee that these wives’ tales are truly going to predict the gender of your baby, if you’re hoping to keep the gender a surprise, we must note, read at your own discretion!

Let’s get started with the most popular old wives’ tale, are you carrying high or low? You might've already heard it, especially from aunts and possibly even your mother-in-law who's equally as eager to find out your baby's gender. As the story goes, if you’re carrying high, your baby will be a girl, and the opposite being if you’re carrying low, it’s a boy. Now this is an odd one, has your partner put on any sympathy weight? If so, it’s predicted that your baby will be a girl! Do you find that your skin is dryer than normal? If so, you can expect a boy! And if you’re not convinced with these wives’ tales, you can find 14 more in this article.

How do you celebrate World Beard Day? We don’t think there’s a right or a wrong way to celebrate, but here are some ideas! To get you started, check out this style guide prepared by Gillette which breaks down the best styles based on your face shape. So whether you have a more square, round, oval or rectangular face, there’s new styles for everyone!

Did you know that beards could be seen as a good luck symbol? We can all thank hockey players in the NHL who started flaunting beards during the Stanley Cup playoff games back in the 1980s. National Food Bank Day

Friday, September 2nd, 2022

In 2020, 60 million people received food assistance within the U.S., seeing an increase of more than 50% from 2019. That’s a shocking 1 in every 5 Americans! Although the pandemic most likely contributed to this, it’s not hard to see that America, a growing and prosperous nation, is still facing a food crisis. So today on National Food Bank Day, we want to teach you ways to help combat hunger in the U.S.!

There are multiple ways you can do your part to help food banks across the country. The first being, if you’re in the position to donate either food or money, there are multiple food banks available throughout the U.S. To find the one closest to you, you can simply type your zip code into the search field on Feeding America. The three most requested food items at food banks across the country are: dairy products, including milk and yogurt; fresh produce; and lean proteins, including canned tuna and frozen chicken. Another way to help struggling food banks is to volunteer your time at these facilities.

Food prices saw a rise of 10.1 percent from May of 2021 to May of this year, and this percentage is predicted to only continue increasing, making it harder for low-income families and individuals to put food on their table. But because preparing healthy meals doesn’t need to break the budget, here are “60 cheap dinner ideas for under $10”!

Pick up a pen!

Thursday, September 1st, 2022

When was the last time you drove down to the post office and bought a stamp to mail a letter? Has it been months, maybe years? Nowadays, we have technology that provides us with the opportunity to use different platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and even email to connect and communicate with friends and family globally. But today, we encourage you to pick up a pen and find a blank piece of paper as it’s World Letter Writing Day!

Who should you send a letter to? Anyone! Start by writing a letter to a grandparent as this is the generation that relied heavily on the transport of letters to share special news and important messages. Although the telephone became popular within the U.S. in the early early 1900s’, it took longer in poorer and more remote communities. So it should come as no surprise that sending a letter to a grandparent, who might’ve used writing as a source of communication, could bring a smile to their face when the post arrives. And for those who can’t think of anyone to send a letter to, why not consider our soldiers! Soldiers Angels have even compiled a step-by-step guide on ‘How to Write Your First Letter’.

Taking part in World Letter Writing Day could ignite your passion for writing! If this is the case, here are some recommendations to pave the way for your new hobby. Let’s start with a notebook like this one, specifically to write letters to your daughter. This notebook can easily be personalized to amend ‘daughter’ to whoever you choose to write to. You can also find return address labels in the form of stickers and stamps to enhance your envelopes. And now for the most important item, an elegant engraved wooden pen! You now have everything you need to continue your new-found love of writing!
